Background: Muscle atrophy is a typical affliction in patients affected by knee Osteoarthritis (KOA). This study aimed to examine the potential pathogenesis and biomarkers that coalesce to induce muscle atrophy, primarily through the utilization of bioinformatics analysis.

Methods: Two distinct public datasets of osteoarthritis and muscle atrophy (GSE82107 and GSE205431) were subjected to differential gene expression analysis and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) to probe for common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and conduct transcription factor (TF) enrichment analysis from such genes.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the severity of preoperative valgus deformity and clinical outcomes of neutrally aligned total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Patients And Methods: A total of 376 knees with valgus deformity who underwent TKA from January 2006 to March 2014 were retrospectively screened, and 287 knees (242 patients; 32 males, 210 females; mean age: 64.5±8.

Background: In patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA), the administration of dexamethasone may contribute to perioperative blood glucose (BG) disturbances, potentially resulting in complications, even in patients without diabetes. This study aimed to demonstrate the impact of different administration regimens of dexamethasone in postoperative BG levels.

Methods: In this randomized, controlled, double-blind trial, 136 patients without diabetes scheduled for TJA were randomly assigned to three groups: two perioperative saline injections (Group A, placebo); a single preoperative injection of 20 mg dexamethasone and a postoperative saline injection (Group B), and two perioperative injections of 10 mg dexamethasone (Group C).

Radiation-induced rectal injury is closely related with radiotherapy efficiency. Here, we investigated the effect of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) in radiation-induced rectal injury. Peripheral blood samples of patients with rectal cancer were collected prior to radiotherapy.

Regulation of gene expression is highly important in the area of cell biology. In this work a novel convenient and versatile strategy is reported which permits both gene regulation and imaging in living cells. An oligonucleotide-based biomimetic probe was designed to target an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and served as an agent for the modulation of c-Myc protein expression in living cells through regulating the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway.

Background And Purpose: Although recent studies have indicated that acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) may play an important role in suppressing status epilepticus (SE) in rats, the precise mechanism is unclear. We attempted to investigate the antiepileptic effect of amiloride in SE rats and its mechanism.

Methods: Rats with seizures induced by Li-pilocarpine were randomly divided into four groups, phosphate buffer saline (PBS) group, amiloride group, levetiracetam group and acidic liquid group, respectively.

Bimetallic Au@Pt@Au triple-layered core-shell nanoparticles consisting of a Au core, Pt inner shell, and an outer shell composed of Au protuberances on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were successfully prepared by a galvanic replacement and reagent reduction reaction. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were employed to characterize the GO-supported Au@Pt@Au (GO/Au@Pt@Au) nanocomposites. The as-prepared catalyst has peroxidase-like activity, allowing it to express high electrocatalytic ability in hydrogen peroxide (HO) oxidation and reduction, thus leading to a highly sensitive HO bi-directional amperometric sensing.
