Unlabelled: Aspirin has shown potential for cancer prevention, but a recent large randomized controlled trial found no evidence for a reduction in cancer risk. Given the anti-inflammatory effects of aspirin, systemic inflammatory diseases (SID), such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic diseases, could potentially modify the aspirin-cancer link. To investigate the impact of aspirin in people with SIDs, we conducted an observational study on a prospective cohort of 478,615 UK Biobank participants.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer has a high risk of morbidity and mortality, particularly in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, where 30-55% develop brain metastases, leading to poor prognosis.
  • The study investigates the role of cell adhesion molecule 2 (CADM2) in influencing the prognosis of NSCLC patients who have brain metastases, focusing on its expression levels in primary tumor tissues.
  • Results from 139 evaluated NSCLC patients show that high CADM2 expression is linked to poorer survival outcomes and is identified as an independent risk factor for those with brain metastases.

Objective: To investigate the effects of ischemic post-conditioning (IPO) on the lung endogenous oxidant-antioxidant system and nitric oxide level during the early stage of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury.

Methods: Twenty four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 equal groups: sham-operation (S) group, I/R Group, undergoing ischemia by blocking the lung hilus for 1 h and then reperfusion for 30 min, IPO Group, undergoing blocking the lung hilus for 1 h and then 3 cycles of 10 s ischemia and 10 s reperfusion. Then the rats were killed with their lungs taken out.
