The Golgi apparatus is one of the most important organelles in cells. Targeting and monitoring the morphology and structure of the Golgi apparatus are crucial and challenging. Aimed at the cysteine (Cys) receptor on the surface of the Golgi apparatus, ligand-directed carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized for Golgi apparatus-targeting imaging.

Metallothioneins (MTs) are a family of low molecular weight, cysteine-rich, metal-binding proteins that are able to make cells to uptake heavy metals from the environment. Molecular and functional characterization of this gene family improves understanding of the mechanisms underlying heavy metal tolerance in higher organisms. In this study, a cDNA clone, encoding 74-a.

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on the levels of CD 4+ and CD 8+ lymphocytes in the plasma and thymus in anxiety disorder rats, so as to explore its mechanism underlying favorable regulation of immune function.

Methods: Thirty-four SD rats were randomly divided into control (n = 10) , model (n = 12) and EA (n = 12) groups. The anxiety model was established by using chronic unpredictable emotional stress stimulation (fasting, water-deprivation, shaking, tail-clamping, forced warm- and cool-water swimming, electrical shock stimulation, etc.

Three platinum(II) bipyridyl bis((7-R-fluoren-2-yl)acetylide) complexes (R = benzoyl (Pt-1), 2-(N-phenylbenzimidazoly) (Pt-2), or 2-(3-phenylquinoxalinyl) (Pt-3)) are synthesized and characterized. Their photophysical properties and reverse saturable absorption are systematically investigated via UV-vis absorption, emission, transient absorption, and nonlinear transmission spectroscopy/technique. All three complexes possess ligand-centered (1)π,π* transitions below 400 nm, and a broad, featureless (1)MLCT/(1)LLCT absorption band in the region of 400-550 nm in CH2Cl2 solutions.

Stomata are two-celled valves that control epidermal pores whose spacing optimizes shoot-atmosphere gas exchange. They develop from protodermal cells after unequal divisions followed by an equal division and differentiation. The concentration of the hormone auxin, a master plant developmental regulator, is tightly controlled in time and space, but its role, if any, in stomatal formation is obscure.

As a major alternative therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it has been demonstrated that moxibustion could generate a series of molecular events in blood, spleen, and brain, and so forth. However, what would happen at the moxibustioned site remained unclear. To answer this question, we performed a microarray analysis with skin tissue taken from the moxibustioned site also Zusanli acupoint (ST36) where 15-minute moxibustion stimulation was administrated.

Objective: To observe the effect of moxibustion intervention on inflammatory reactions and expression of suppressor of cyfokine signaling 1 (SOCS 1) and SOCS 2 [Which are involved in inhibition of the Janus Kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcrip-tion (JAK/STAT signaling pathway and in sffenuation of cytokine signaling)] in synovium cells of the hind-knee joint in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) rabbits, so as to study its mechanism underlying improvement of RA.

Methods: Forty-two Japanese big-ear white rabbits were randomized into control, model and moxibustion groups respectively, with 14 cases in each group. RA model was established by injection of Freund's Complete Adjuvant (0.

Objective: To observe the specificity relationship between acupuncture at "Hegu" (LI 4) and the facial muscular movement in rhesus monkeys under the physiological state by using neuromuscular electrical measurement technique.

Methods: Eighteen rhesus monkeys were randomized into a Hegu group, a Houxi group and a Waiguan group, 6 monkeys in each one. Under the physiological state, EMG was detected on the frontal muscle, zygomatic muscle and orbicular muscle before and after acupuncture at different acupoints.

Metabonomics is a newly emerging modern technology in the Post-genome era and has been being used widely in the study on modern Chinese medicine. But it have been rarely used in the study on acupuncture therapy. In the present paper, the authors introduce the unique advantages of metabonomics in the systemtic biology and its widespread studying basis in the field of modern Chinese medicine.

The dynamic character of acupoint has been observed extensively, but it is rarely analyzed systematically. The aim of this paper is to analyze the essence of this unique dynamic character of acupoint based on old and modern research literatures. Modern studies are summarized on qi and blood changes on the same acupoint at different times, in different physiological and pathological conditions and different syndrome types.

Objective: To observe the effect of moxibustion of "Shenshu" (BL 23) and "Zusanli"(ST 36) on synovial nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB p65 expression, and plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and serum cortisol (CS) contents in rheumatic arthritis (RA) rats with adrenalectomy (ADX) so as to study the underlying mechanism in ameliorating RA.

Methods: Fifty male SD rats were randomly divided into control (n=10), model (n=10), moxibustion (n=10), ADX (n=10) and false ADX (n=10) groups according to SPSS-aided random digits table. RA model was established by injecting 0.

Combining the functional metabolic imaging and anatomical imaging, PET-CT stands for the highest level of current nuclear medical imaging techniques, and has been applying increasingly in acupuncture studies. However, owning to complexity of the brain function and sensitivity of brain metabolism, the lower reproducibility of cerebral function imaging even may reverse many results. This has been provoked more and more attention by researchers.

A novel rearrangement involving ester group migration was found in the reaction of acyl cyanides and Huisgen zwitterions, affording hydrazone derivatives at higher temperature (90 degrees C) and azine derivatives at lower temperature (20 degrees C), respectively. Interestingly, the reaction temperature is identified as a critical factor to control the final products. Presumably, the rearrangement involving ester group migration between oxygen and nitrogen atoms leads to the formation of different products.

Background: Acupuncture is widely used in China to treat functional dyspepsia (FD). However, its effectiveness in the treatment of FD, and whether FD-specific acupoints exist, are controversial. So this study aims to determine if acupuncture is an effective treatment for FD and if acupoint specificity exists according to traditional acupuncture meridians and acupoint theories.

Neuroimaging studies on brain responses to acupuncture stimulations have received considerable attention recently. The majority of these studies are centered on healthy controls (HC) and neuropathy, while little work has addressed other disorders. This study aimed to investigate the influence of acupuncture stimulations on brain activities in functional dyspepsia (FD) patients.

Objective: To observe response characteristics of human brain to acupuncture of corresponding channel point selection and probe into the central nervous mechanism of acupuncture at the points selected along channel.

Methods: Six cases of chronic migraine were treated with acupuncture at Fengchi (GB 20), Waiguan (TE 5), Yang-lingquan (GB 34) on the Shaoyang Channel. Positron emission computerized tomography (PET-CT) was used for scanning and statistic parameter map (SPM 2) software was used to analyze the data and compare with healthy human brain function imaging and investigate the changes of metabolism of glucose in the brain of the patient of migraine before and after acupuncture.
