Solitary plasmacytoma (SP) of the skull is an uncommon clinical entity that is characterized by a localized proliferation of neoplastic monoclonal plasma cells. This case report describes a 50-year-old male that presented with a headache and an exophytic soft mass on the occiput. The diagnosis of SP was based on the pathological results and imaging examinations.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth largest cancer in the world, with a 5-year survival rate of <30%. Thus, this study intends to investigate the effects of inhibin βA (INHBA) gene silencing on the migration and invasion of GC cells via the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway. Initially, this study determined the expression of INHBA and the TGF-β signaling pathway-related genes in GC tissues.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) represents a devastating malignancy characterized by high mortality, and notoriously problematic to diagnose. Recently, microRNAs (miRs) have been intensively investigated due to their potential usefulness from a tumor treatment perspective.

Aims: The current study was aimed to investigate whether miR-494 influences epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), tumor growth and metastasis of CCA.

The peroxiredoxins (Prxs) define a novel and evolutionarily conserved superfamily of peroxidases able to protect cells from oxidative damage by catalyzing the reduction of a wide range of cellular peroxides. Prxs have been identified in prokaryotes as well as in eukaryotes, however, the composition and number of Prxs family members vary in different species. In this study, six Prxs were firstly identified from the mud crab Scylla paramamosain by RT-PCR and RACE methods.

Although iono-regulatory processes are critical for survival of crustaceans during the molt cycle, the mechanisms involved are still not clear. The Na/K/2Cl cotransporter (NKCC), a SLC12A family protein that transports Na, K and 2Cl into cells, is essential for cell ionic and osmotic regulation. To better understand the role of NKCC in the molt osmoregulation, we cloned and characterized a NKCC gene from the mud crab, Scylla paramamosain (designated as SpNKCC).
