Whether stem-cell-like cancer cells avert ferroptosis to mediate therapy resistance remains unclear. In this study, using a soft fibrin gel culture system, we found that tumor-repopulating cells (TRCs) with stem-cell-like cancer cell characteristics resist chemotherapy and radiotherapy by decreasing ferroptosis sensitivity. Mechanistically, through quantitative mass spectrometry and lipidomic analysis, we determined that mitochondria metabolic kinase PCK2 phosphorylates and activates ACSL4 to drive ferroptosis-associated phospholipid remodeling.

The enhancement of cadmium (Cd) extraction by plants from contaminated soils associated with phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) has been widely reported, but the underlying mechanism remains scarcely, especially in Cd-contaminated saline soils. Purpose: We previously demonstrated that real-time monitoring of plasma Epstein-Barr virus DNA (EBV DNA) during chemoradiation therapy defined 4 distinct phenotypic clusters of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In particular, the treatment-resistant group, defined as detectable EBV DNA at the end of radiation therapy, had the worst prognosis and is thought to have minimal residual disease.

Red mud (RM) was constantly reported to immobilize soil cadmium (Cd) and reduce Cd uptake by crops, but few studies investigated whether and how RM influenced rhizobacteria communities, which was a vital factor determining Cd bioavailability and plant growth. To address this concern, high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics were used to analyze microbiological mechanisms underlying RM application reducing Cd accumulation in edible amaranth. Based on multiple statistical models (Detrended correspondence analysis, Bray-Curtis, weighted UniFrac, and Phylogenetic tree), this study found that RM reduced Cd content in plants not only through increasing rhizosphere soil pH, but by reshaping rhizobacteria communities.

Results: From 2015 to 2017, totally 59 981 schistosomiasis cases were reported in China, among which, 1 460 cases were deleted, and 58 521 were censored cases.

Exogenous glycinebetaine treatment is an effective measure for preventing crops from being exposed to drought and high temperature; however, the effects of this approach on the soil Cd uptake and accumulation by crops remain unclear. Pot experiments were conducted in this study to analyze the effect of glycinebetaine on the soil Cd uptake and accumulation by edible amaranth cultivated in Cd-contaminated soil. Results revealed that after exogenous glycinebetaine treatment on amaranth leaves during the vigorous growth period, the plant biomass, the Cd concentrations in the roots and shoots, and the Cd translocation factor (TF) were significantly higher than those of the control group.
