On May 22, 2023, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the first nalmefene hydrochloride nasal spray for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older. This approval of a new prescription nalmefene hydrochloride nasal spray adds to the available opioid reversal options for hospitals, communities, harm reduction groups, and emergency responders. Due to the life-threatening nature of opioid overdose, conducting randomized, well-controlled clinical efficacy trials in the target patient population is neither ethical nor feasible.

The poverty alleviation relocation program (PAR) is a milestone project in breaking spatial poverty traps in ethnic mountainous regions and provides a key solution for eradicating global absolute poverty. As direct participants in the restructuring of environmental and livelihood systems, the livelihood adaptation of relocated households is fundamental to the sustainable development of human-land systems in resettlement sites and the consolidation of the success of poverty alleviation. This research constructs an adaptive integration analysis framework of "external disturbance-adaptation process-adaptation outcome", by utilizing questionnaire data from relocated households in the Liangshan Yi minority area of Southwest China, and employing a formative structural equation model to investigate the transmission mechanisms and heterogeneous effects of PAR on livelihood adaptation across different resettlement characteristics.

Marine actinomycetes exhibit a high level of biodiversity and possess significant potential for the production of high-value secondary metabolites. The simultaneous sorption of cations and anions at the mineral-water interface can substantially alter their individual sorption characteristics; however, this phenomenon lacks a mechanistic understanding. Our study provides direct spectroscopic and modeling evidence of the molecular cosorption mechanisms of the cadmium ion (Cd) and phosphate (P) on goethite and layered manganese (Mn) oxide of birnessite, through in situ attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), P -edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, and surface complexation modeling. Phosphate synergistically cosorbed with Cd on goethite predominantly through P-bridged ternary complexes (≡Fe-P-Cd) and electrostatic interactions at wide pH conditions.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease leading to dementia in the elderly, and the mechanisms of AD have not been fully defined. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), covalently closed RNAs produced by reverse splicing, have critical effects in the pathogenesis of AD. CircRNAs participate in production and clearance of Aβ and tau, regulate neuroinflammation, synaptic plasticity and the process of apoptosis and autophagy, indicating that circRNAs may be alternative biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
