Objective: To examine the association of prenatal and early childhood serum PFAS concentrations with children's reading skills at ages 5 and 8years.

Methods: We used data from 167 mother-child pairs recruited during pregnancy (2003-2006) in Cincinnati, OH, quantified prenatal serum PFAS concentrations at 16±3weeks of gestation and childhood sera at ages 3 and 8years.

Zoledronic acid (ZOL) has been used as an adjuvant therapy for breast cancer. It is suggested that ZOL might be associated with inhibition of macrophages, which in turn reduces tumor growth, metastasis and tumor angiogenesis. Moreover, metronomic therapy can inhibit tumor angiogenesis and tumor immune cells.

HCRP1 downregulation confers poor prognosis and induces chemoresistance through regulation of EGFR-AKT pathway in human gastric cancer.

The current study aims to investigate the biological roles and clinical significance of HCRP1 in human gastric cancer. The expression pattern of HCRP1 in gastric cancer tissue and adjacent non-cancerous tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. HCRP1 downregulation was found in 57 of 137 human gastric cancer samples and correlated with advanced TNM stage, positive nodal status, and relapse.

Generation of an ASGR1 homozygous mutant human embryonic stem cell line WAe001-A-6 using CRISPR/Cas9.

The gene asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (ASGR1) encodes a subunit of the asialoglycoprotein receptor. Here we report the generation of a human embryonic stem cell line WAe001-A-6 harbouring homozygous ASGR1 mutations using CRISPR/Cas9. The mutation involves a 37bp deletion, resulting in a frame shift.

Hollow CoP nanoflowers assembled from nanorods for ultralong cycle-life supercapacitors.

Hollow CoP nanoflowers (CoP HNFs) were successfully prepared via a one-step, template-free method. Microstructure analysis reveals that CoP HNFs are assembled from nanorods and possess abundant mesopores and an amorphous carbon shell. Density functional theory calculations and electrochemical measurements demonstrate the high electrical conductivity of CoP.

Screening candidate microRNA-mRNA regulatory pairs for predicting the response to chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer by a bioinformatics approach.

Extensive efforts have been undertaken in search of biomarkers for predicting the chemoradiotherapy response in rectal cancer. However, most attention on treatment efficiency prediction in carcinoma is addicted to single or limited molecules. Network biomarkers are considered to outperform single molecules in predictive power.

Weibo sentiments and stock return: A time-frequency view.

This study provides new insights into the relationships between social media sentiments and the stock market in China. Based on machine learning, we classify microblogs posted on Sina Weibo, a Twitter's variant in China into five detailed sentiments of anger, disgust, fear, joy, and sadness. Using wavelet analysis, we find close positive linkages between sentiments and the stock return, which have both frequency and time-varying features.

The role of local allergy in the nasal inflammation.

Local allergic inflammation (LAI) is recognized recently. 'entopy' was used to define LAI, which was positively correlated with allergen provocation testing, local sIgE up-regulation, inflammatory mediator secretion, and a lack of systemic allergy. The study of LAI is in its infancy and focuses mainly on the respiratory system.

Lignocellulosic biomass from various types of wood has become a renewable resource for production of biofuels and biobased chemicals. Because xylan is the major component of wood hemicelluloses, highly efficient enzymes to enhance xylan hydrolysis can improve the use of lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, a xylanolytic gene cluster was identified from the crude oil-degrading thermophilic strain Geobacillus thermodenitrificans NG80-2.

Effectiveness of Neuromuscular Training Based on the Neuromuscular Risk Profile.

Background: The effects of targeted neuromuscular training (TNMT) on movement biomechanics associated with the risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are currently unknown. Purpose/Hypotheses: To determine the effectiveness of TNMT specifically designed to increase trunk control and hip strength. The hypotheses were that (1) TNMT would decrease biomechanical and neuromuscular factors related to an increased ACL injury risk and (2) TNMT would decrease these biomechanical and neuromuscular factors to a greater extent in athletes identified as being at a high risk for future ACL injuries.

Diabetes mellitus and the risk of gastric cancer: a meta-analysis of cohort studies.

Studies examining the relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and the risk of gastric cancer incidence or gastric cancer mortality have produced inconsistent results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evidence regarding the relationship between DM and subsequent gastric cancer incidence or gastric cancer mortality risk on the basis of cohort studies. A systematic search of articles in PubMed, EmBase, the Cochrane Library, and reference lists was conducted to identify relevant literature.

Its onset, development, metastasis, and prognosis vary among individuals due to the interactions between tumors and host immunity. Many diverse mechanisms have been associated with BC, with immune evasion being the most widely studied to date.

Dysregulation of hormone metabolism is implicated in human breast cancer. 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 4 (HSD17B4) catalyzes the conversion of estradiol (E2) to estrone (E1), and is associated with the pathogenesis and development of various cancers. Here we show that E1 upregulates HSD17B4 acetylation at lysine 669 (K669) and thereby promotes HSD17B4 degradation via chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA), while a single mutation at K669 reverses the degradation and confers migratory and invasive properties to MCF7 cells upon E1 treatment.

CBMIR mainly includes discriminated feature extraction and similarity calculation procedures.

Metabolic engineering of Escherichia coli for the production of 2'-fucosyllactose and 3-fucosyllactose through modular pathway enhancement.

Fucosyllactoses, including 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL) and 3-fucosyllactose (3-FL), are important oligosaccharides in human milk that are commonly used as nutritional additives in infant formula due to their biological functions, such as the promotion of bifidobacteria growth, inhibition of pathogen infection, and improvement of immune response. In this study, we developed a synthetic biology approach to promote the efficient biosynthesis of 2'-FL and 3-FL in engineered Escherichia coli. To boost the production of 2'-FL and 3-FL, multiple modular optimization strategies were applied in a plug-and-play manner.

An Organelle Correlation-Guided Feature Selection Approach for Classifying Multi-Label Subcellular Bio-Images.

Nowadays, with the advances in microscopic imaging, accurate classification of bioimage-based protein subcellular location pattern has attracted as much attention as ever. One of the basic challenging problems is how to select the useful feature components among thousands of potential features to describe the images. This is not an easy task especially considering there is a high ratio of multi-location proteins.
