Objective: To investigate the protective effect of endogenous ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) against cisplatin-induced myelosuppression and the mechanism of reducing apoptosis in bone marrow nucleated cells using mfat-1 transgenic mice.

Methods: The experimental animals were divided into 4 groups: wild-type mice normal control group, mfat-1 transgenic mice normal control group, wild-type mice model group and mfat-1 transgenic mice model group. The mice in the model group were injected intraperitoneally with 7.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to assess the effectiveness of combining surgical navigation nasal endoscopy (NNE) with three-dimensional printing technology (3DPT) for treating orbital blowout fractures (OBF).
  • Patients were divided into two groups: one received traditional surgery while the other used the new combined approach, allowing researchers to compare the outcomes, including recovery rates and complications.
  • Results showed that the new surgical method significantly improved recovery from diplopia and eye movement disorders and had a lower rate of postoperative complications than traditional methods.

Uveal Melanoma (UM) is the most prevalent primary intraocular malignancy in adults. This study assessed the importance of chromatin regulators (CRs) in UM and developed a model to predict UM prognosis. Gene expression data and clinical information for UM were obtained from public databases.

Aim: To study the braking effectiveness of artesunate on transforming growth factor (TGF)-β2 mediated epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) .

Methods: The fostered ARPE-19 cells were processed with artesunate alone or combined with the TGF-β2. The CCK-8 examination was utilized to test the cell propagation.

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is the main cause of retinal detachment surgery failure. The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) induced by transforming growth factor (TGF-β2) plays an important role in the development of PVR. Artesunate has been widely studied as a treatment for ophthalmic diseases because of its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic and antiproliferative properties.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of navigation-guided sinus endoscopy to remove the cavernous vascular malformation of the orbital apex through the sphenoid approach.

Methods: A retrospective series of non-control cases were collected. From May 2012 to December 2019, patients with imaging findings of cavernous venous malformation in the orbital apex were collected at the Eye Hospital Affiliated to Nanchang University.

Article Synopsis
  • Conjunctival sac stenosis is a condition where the conjunctival sac gets squeezed due to trauma or disease, and this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) combined with hydroxyapatite (HA) orbital implantation as a treatment.
  • A total of 10 patients underwent treatment involving scleral graft transplantation and HA implantation, along with LLLT, which led to significant healing of conjunctival wounds within 2 to 3 weeks post-treatment.
  • The study also used a rabbit model to explore the biological mechanisms of LLLT, revealing that although implants were fibrotic, LLLT positively influenced graft survival and early vascularization of HA implants.

Aim: To investigate the effect of repair materials for orbital blowout fractures on the occurrence of postoperative complications.

Methods: The clinical data and follow-up data of 54 subjects with orbital blowout fractures were retrospectively analyzed. The study was divided into three groups according to the used repair materials: titanium mesh (16 cases), Medpor (12 cases), and Medpor titanium mesh (26 cases).

To observe synergistic effects of 999 Ganmaoling (GML) and its Chinese/Western materia medica (CMM and WMM) on pharmacodynamic action and to study underlying mechanisms, their anti-inflammatory, antipyretic effects were compared by assaying the increased capillary permeability induced by glacial acetic acid in mice, ear swelling induced by Xylene in mice, non-specific pleurisy induced by carrageenan in rats, and yeast induced fever in rats. Crystal violet (CV) and microbial activity (XTT) assay were used to evaluate the inhibition of GML and its CMM and WMM on KPN biofilm formation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was applied for observing KPN biofilm morphology changes. The results showed that compared with control group, GML could reduce exudation amount of Evans-Blue and the degree of Ear swelling significantly, and CMM and WMM have no significant effects.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of helium-neon laser therapy in the treatment of hydroxyapatite orbital implant exposure and compare the results with those of a combined drugs and surgery regimen. A total of 70 patients with hydroxyapatite orbital implant exposure in 70 eyes were randomly divided into two groups: Helium-neon laser therapy (group A) and drugs plus surgery (group B). Each group contained 35 patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare two imaging techniques—contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced MRI—in assessing the vascularization of hydroxyapatite orbital implants.
  • Ten patients were monitored monthly with both methods to see how well they could visualize vascularization progress over time.
  • The results showed that while both techniques provided similar findings, contrast-enhanced ultrasound was more effective in visualizing the dynamic process of vascularization compared to MRI.

Purpose: To compare the stress distributions of fixed bridge, cement-retained telescopic prostheses and extracoronal precision attachment (CEKA attachment) when connect the implants to the natural teeth, in order to find a more suitable design for it.

Methods: 3-D finite element models of tooth-implant partial fixed dentures were constructed by using the ANSYS software. The partial fixed denture was supported by the second premolar and an implant (substitute the second molar).
