Organophosphorus pesticides are the most extensively utilized agrichemicals in the world. They play a crucial role in regulating crop growth, immunizing against pests, and improving yields, while their unregulated residues exert serious detrimental effects on both the environment and human health. Many efforts have been made in the world to monitor organophosphorus pesticides and solve the issues caused by them.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is widely utilized as a plasticizer in industrial manufacturing to enhance the durability and flexibility of plastics. Studies have depicted that DEHP exposure may be associated with multiple cancers, including colorectal, liver and prostate cancer. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of DEHP on bladder cancer progression remain unspecific.

Rationale And Objectives: To assess the predictive value of MRI-based radiomics of periprostatic fat (PPF) and tumor lesions for predicting Gleason score (GS) upgrading from biopsy to radical prostatectomy (RP) in prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: A total of 314 patients with pathologically confirmed prostate cancer (PCa) after radical prostatectomy (RP) were included in the study. The patients were randomly assigned to the training cohort (n = 157) and the validating cohort (n = 157) in a 1:1 ratio.

Objective: We aimed to develop and validate a nomogram based on MRI radiomics to predict overall survival (OS) for patients with de novo oligometastatic prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: A total of 165 patients with de novo oligometastatic PCa were included in the study (training cohort, n = 115; validating cohort, n = 50). Among them, MRI scans were conducted and T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) sequences were collected for radiomics features along with their clinicopathological features.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a progressive age-related disorder characterized by the reduction in the number of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM), thereby leading to chronic pain and disability. The pathogenesis of IDD is multifaceted, and current therapeutic strategies remain limited. The nucleus pulposus (NP), primarily composed of NPCs, proteoglycans, and type II collagen, constitutes essential components for maintaining intervertebral disc (IVD) function and spinal motion.

Background: Inflammation-related biomarkers, such as systemic inflammation score (SIS) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), are associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. However, the combined role of SIS, NLR, and clinicopathological factors in stage II/III colorectal cancer remains unclear. This study developed a nomogram to predict long-term prognosis for these patients.

Therapeutic advances in treating patients with multiple myeloma (MM), including novel immunotherapies, have improved the disease control, but it remains incurable. Although traditional immune check point inhibitors have shown limited clinical benefit, targeting alternative immune-inhibitory pathways may offer a novel way to address relapsed disease. Blockade of the immune regulator TIGIT was shown to enhance antitumor immunity in preclinical MM models.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is the primary cause of low back pain (LBP). Enhanced inflammation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels can cause apoptosis, which is one of the initial factors of IVDD. Our previous study showed that daphnetin (DAP) alleviates IVDD; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown.

We present a spectroscopic method that employs a single linearly chirped laser pulse (LCLP) generated by external modulation to realize long-distance multi-point gas sensing. Even without frequency-chirping calibration, accurate single-shot spectral measurement is rendered possible by the high linearity of intrapulse chirping (linearity error of ∼10). Utilizing the LCLP's built-in capacity of time-division-multiplexing, high measurement sensitivity is guaranteed by introducing a multichannel intensity noise compensation mechanism.

Poly(ADP-ribose) glycosylhydrolase (PARG) is an enzyme involved in hydrolyzing the ribose-ribose bonds present in poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR), which are primarily found in the nucleus. Along with poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), PARG regulates the level of PAR in cells, playing a crucial role in DNA maintenance and repair processes. Recent studies have revealed elevated levels of PARG in various cancers, such as breast, liver, prostate, and esophageal cancers, indicating a link to unfavorable cancer outcomes.

  • The study explores the genetic characteristics of urinary bladder paragangliomas (UBPGLs) in a cohort of 70 Chinese patients, aiming to better understand their heritability and genetic variations.
  • Results show that 38 patients had pathogenic variants (PVs), mainly in cluster 1A genes like SDHB and HRAS, with UBPGLs showing higher PV rates in cluster 1A compared to non-head and neck PGLs.
  • The findings indicate a diverse genetic profile among Chinese patients with UBPGLs, emphasizing the necessity for genetic testing to identify significant pathogenic variants.

Porcine parvovirus (PPV) infection induces germ cell death, leading to reproductive disorders in first-pregnant sows. Porcine placental trophoblast cells (PTCs) are the major target of PPV, and we have previously found that PPV infection leads to the death of PTCs by a non-apoptotic process, which may be related to PPV pathogenicity. The Z-nucleic acid-binding protein 1 (ZBP1) is often activated after virus invasion and mediates subsequent cell death.

Objective: To build and validate a periprostatic fat magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based radiomics nomogram for prediction of biochemical recurrence-free survival (bRFS) of patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer (PCa) receiving radical prostatectomy (RP).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 356 patients with non-metastatic PCa who underwent preoperative mpMRI followed by RP treatment at our institution. Radiomic features were extracted from both intratumoral region and the periprostatic fat region, which were segmented on images obtained through T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and apparent-diffusion coefficient (ADC) imaging.

The rapid emergence of large language model (LLM) technology presents promising opportunities to facilitate the development of synthetic reactions. In this work, we leveraged the power of GPT-4 to build an LLM-based reaction development framework (LLM-RDF) to handle fundamental tasks involved throughout the chemical synthesis development. LLM-RDF comprises six specialized LLM-based agents, including Literature Scouter, Experiment Designer, Hardware Executor, Spectrum Analyzer, Separation Instructor, and Result Interpreter, which are pre-prompted to accomplish the designated tasks.

Mitophagy serves as a mitochondrial quality control mechanism to maintain the homeostasis of mitochondria and the intracellular environment. Studies have shown that there is a close relationship between mitophagy and apoptosis. Sestrin2 (Sesn2) is a highly conserved class of stress-inducible proteins that play important roles in reducing oxidative stress damage, inflammation, and apoptosis.

Single-molecule localization super-resolution fluorescence imaging relies on the fluorescence ON/OFF switching of fluorescent probes to break the diffraction limit. However, the unreacted or nonspecifically bound probes cause non-targeted ON/OFF switching, resulting in substantial fluorescence background that significantly reduces localization precision and accuracy. Here, we report a blinkogenic probe HM-DS655-Halo that remains blinking OFF until it binds to HaloTag, thereby triggering its self-blinking activity and enabling its application in direct SMLM imaging in living cells without wash-out steps.
