Spin torque nano-oscillators possessing fast nonlinear dynamics and short-term memory functions are potentially able to achieve energy-efficient neuromorphic computing. In this study, we introduce an activation-state controllable spin neuron unit composed of vertically coupled vortex spin torque oscillators and a-source circuit is proposed and used to build an energy-efficient sparse reservoir computing (RC) system to solve nonlinear dynamic system prediction task. Based on micromagnetic and electronic circuit simulation, the Mackey-Glass chaotic time series and the real motor vibration signal series can be predicted by the RC system with merely 20 and 100 spin neuron units, respectively.

Squirrel-cage induction motors are increasingly displaying a broken rotor bar fault, which represents both a technical problem and an economic problem. After confirming that the broken rotor bars do not affect the normal start-up and basic working performance of the squirrel-cage induction motor, this paper focuses on the loss and efficiency changes of the motor brought about by the broken rotor bar fault. Using finite element simulation and experimentation, various losses like stator copper loss, iron loss, rotor copper loss, mechanical loss and additional losses, total loss and efficiency are obtained.

Objective: Myocardial injury leads to higher mortality in COVID-19, but the causes and risk factors are variable. We evaluated the potential risk factors for myocardial injury in COVID-19 patients to improve treatment strategies and reduce mortality.

Methods: This retrospective analysis enrolled 325 COVID-19 patients in Shanghai, China.

Dysregulation of immune response was observed in COVID-19 patients. Thymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) is used in the management of COVID-19, because it is known to restore the homeostasis of the immune system during infections and cancers. We aim to observe the longitudinal changes in T lymphocyte subsets and to evaluate the efficacy of Tα1 for COVID-19.

Low expression of the tumor suppressor Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) often results in higher malignant biological behavior and poor prognosis; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The present study demonstrates that overexpression of Keap1 significantly suppresses migration and invasion of three different lung cancer cells (A549, H460, and H1299). Highly expressed Keap1, compared with the control, promotes formation of multiple stress fibers with larger mature focal adhesion complexes in the cytoplasm where only fine focal adhesions were observed in the membrane under control conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) is a serious global disease affecting both HIV-infected and previously healthy patients, yet the immune responses in previously healthy patients (PHPs) are not well understood.
  • A study analyzing 41 CM patients found that PHPs had higher counts of certain immune cells compared to non-PHPs, but similar levels of inflammatory markers, aside from lower immunoglobulin A (IgA) in non-PHPs.
  • Despite PHPs having a higher five-year mortality rate than non-PHPs (22% vs. 12.5%), this difference was not statistically significant; however, higher immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in serum during the disease onset may indicate increased mortality

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of nimotuzumab combined with palitaxel liposome and carboplatin (LP) regimen for treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to observe the changes of tumor markers and toxicities in the treatment. METHODS Forty-one patients with advanced NSCLC were randomly divided into 2 groups: 21 patients in the observation group were treated with nimotuzumab (200 mg per week for 6 weeks), palitaxel liposome 160 mg/m2 and carboplatin (AUC = 6). 20 patients in the control group were given LP regimen.

Background: Use a banna mini-pig to set up 125I implantation model, and investigate the consequence of radiation-related impairments.

Methods: In present study, 125I seeds were implanted into spinal canal of T13 level of spine in banna mini-pigs. After operation, the pigs were raised up to 8 months, behavior changes were recorded within this period.

Based on an optical gyrator transform system, an image encryption algorithm is designed and studied. An original secret image is regarded as the output intensity of the second gyrator transform. A coherent nonuniform optical beam is converted into the input of the first gyrator transform.

We propose a double image encryption by using random binary encoding and gyrator transform. Two secret images are first regarded as the real part and imaginary part of complex function. Chaotic map is used for obtaining random binary matrix.
