Objective: This study aimed to determine the sensitivity and specificity of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) for detecting pathogens in spinal infections and to identify the differences in the diagnostic performance between mNGS and targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS).
Methods: A total of 76 consecutive patients with suspected spinal infections who underwent mNGS, culture, and histopathological examinations were retrospectively studied. The final diagnosis of the patient was determined by combining the clinical treatment results, pathological examinations, imaging changes and laboratory indicators.

Microorganisms play an important role in regulating flavor compounds in rice wine, whereas we often don't understand how did they affect flavor compounds. Here, the relations between flavor compounds and microbial community ecological succession were investigated by monitoring flavor compounds and microbial community throughout the fermentation stage of rice wine. The composition of microbial community showed a dynamic change, but 13 dominant bacterial genera and 4 dominant fungal genera were detected throughout the fermentation stages.

Methods: Sixty-two consecutive patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis who underwent minimally invasive (MIS)-TLIF with bilateral pedicle screw (BPS) or LLIF-LSUP were retrospectively studied. Segmental lordosis angle (SLA), lumbar lordosis angle (LLA), disc height (DH), slipping percentage, the cross-sectional areas (CSA) of the thecal sac, screw placement accuracy, fusion rate and foraminal height (FH) were used to evaluate radiographic changes postoperatively.
Here, the systems metabolic engineering of L-lysine-overproducing Corynebacterium glutamicum is described to create a highly efficient microorganism producer. The key chromosomal mutations associated with L-lysine synthesis were identified based on whole-genome sequencing. The carbon flux was subsequently redirected into the L-lysine synthesis pathway and increased the availability of energy and product transport systems required for L-lysine synthesis.

We hypothesized that the novel classification is more reliable and valid when compared to previous 3 classifications: Steinberg, modified Kerboul, and Japanese Investigation Committee classifications.
Methods: In the novel classification, necrotic lesions were classified into 3 types: type 1 is a small lesion, where the lateral necrotic margin is medial to the femoral head apex; type 2 is a medium-sized lesion, with the lateral necrotic margin being between the femoral head apex and the lateral acetabular edge; and type 3 is a large lesion, which extends outside the lateral acetabular edge.
l-Pipecolic acid is an important rigid cyclic nonprotein amino acid, which is obtained through the conversion of l-lysine catalyzed by l-lysine cyclodeaminase (LCD). To directly produce l-pipecolic acid from glucose by microbial fermentation, in this study, a recombinant strain with high efficiency of l-pipecolic acid production was constructed.
