Objectives: To provide a longitudinal evaluation tool based on the frequency of aggressive behavior for the aggression assessment of schizophrenia patients.

Methods: The Life History of Aggression was translated and revised to form the Life History of Aggression-Chinese Version (LHA-CV) based on 369 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in the Chengdu community and compulsory medical institution. The reliability of LHA-CV was analyzed by means of split-half reliability, test-retest reliability and inter-evaluator consistency.

Decreased regenerative capacity of central nervous system neurons is the main cause for failure of damaged neuron regeneration and functional recovery. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are abundant in mammalian transcriptomes, and many time- and tissue-specific lncRNAs are thought to be closely related to specific biological functions. The promoting effect of Pim-1 gene on neural differentiation and regeneration has been documented, but the effect and mechanism of its neighbor gene Lnc-Pim1 in regulating the response of central neurons to injury remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how social connectedness influences the link between Internet gaming disorder and somatic symptoms, indicating that stronger social connections may reduce negative health outcomes.
  • Using a range of questionnaires, researchers found that Internet gaming disorder is positively associated with somatic symptoms, but both real-life and network social connectedness negatively correlate with these symptoms.
  • Real-life social connectedness serves as a protective factor and plays a mediating role in the relationship, suggesting that fostering real-life connections could help mitigate the adverse effects of Internet gaming disorder.

Background: Few studies have explored the associated factors of attitudes of nonpsychiatric nurses towards mental disorders. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate the attitudes of nonpsychiatric nurses towards mental disorders and especially explore the association between psychiatric clinical practice and these attitudes.

Methods: A total of 1324 nonpsychiatric nurses and students majoring in nursing were recruited through an online questionnaire from December 2021 to March 2022 in Sichuan Province, China.

Senescence of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) contributes to aging-related cardiovascular diseases by promoting arterial remodelling and stiffness. Ferroptosis is a novel type of regulated cell death associated with lipid oxidation. Here, we show that pro-ferroptosis signaling drives VSMCs senescence to accelerate vascular NAD loss, remodelling and aging.

  • Metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) encephalitis is a rare autoimmune condition that can be hard to diagnose.
  • A 19-year-old girl showed symptoms like anxiety and leg tremors, and tests revealed she had mGluR5 antibodies in her blood and spinal fluid.
  • After treatment, she fully recovered within 18 months, which helps doctors understand how to recognize and treat this illness earlier.

  • Identifying biomarkers to predict relapse in alcohol dependence is crucial but difficult; researchers used neuroimaging to tackle this issue.
  • A study involved 66 male patients in early abstinence who underwent brain imaging and were monitored for 6 months.
  • The use of relevance-vector-machine analysis led to a predictive model that distinguished relapsing patients from those who remained abstinent, achieving high accuracy and a strong area under the curve.

Background: The Swanson Nolan, and Pelham scale version IV (SNAP-IV) is the most critical tool for ADHD screening and diagnosis, which has two scoring methods. ADHD requires symptom assessment in multiple scenarios, and parent and teacher reports are indispensable for diagnosing ADHD. But the differences of assessment results from fathers, mothers and teachers, and the consistency of results from different scoring methods are unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • - Researchers studied brain activity using resting-state fMRI to identify potential biomarkers that could predict relapse in individuals with alcohol dependence during early abstinence.
  • - The study involved 68 alcohol-dependent participants and 68 healthy controls, comparing brain activity patterns and finding significant differences in certain brain regions linked to alcohol addiction.
  • - Findings revealed that specific brain connectivity and activity reductions were associated with both alcohol dependence and relapse, with certain metrics showing good predictive capabilities for relapse risk.

Article Synopsis
  • Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is a growing public health concern in East Asia, particularly among children, and there’s a notable association between IGD and anxiety, but no proven causal link has been established yet.* -
  • A large-scale online survey involving over 10,000 school children and adolescents in western China assessed IGD and anxiety levels, revealing that 3.2% were at high risk for IGD while a majority were either low-risk players (71.1%) or non-gamers (25.7%).* -
  • The study found that high-risk participants exhibited significantly higher anxiety levels, with gender being a strong predictor of IGD risk, while the impact of age was not statistically significant

Background: Internet addiction (IA) is associated with adverse consequences, especially for younger people. Evidence indicates that IA is associated with depression, but no studies have yet investigated potential common vulnerability between them.

Methods: IA (measured by the Young's 20-item Internet Addiction Test Scale) and depressive symptoms (measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Scale) among 12 043 undergraduates were surveyed at baseline and at a respective 12 month follow-up for each participant.

Background: Relatively few studies have compared posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms following a disaster among children of different ethnicities. We sought to investigate the differences in PTSD symptoms between the ethnic Hui and Han child survivors of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in China.

Methods: This study collected data from 1,951 Han and 247 Hui child survivors of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in China.

Objective: This study aimed to clarify the mechanism by which the long non-coding RNA cancer susceptibility candidate 9 (CASC9) alleviates sepsis-related acute kidney injury (S-AKI).

Methods: A lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced AKI model was established to simulate S-AKI. HK-2 human renal tubular epithelial cells were treated with LPS to establish an model, and mice were intraperitoneally injected with LPS to generate an model.

Alcohol dependence (AD) is a chronic recurrent brain disease that causes a heavy disease burden worldwide, partly due to high relapse rates after detoxification. Verified biomarkers are not available for AD and its relapse, although the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) may play important roles in the mechanism of addiction. This study investigated AD- and relapse-associated functional connectivity (FC) of the NAc and mPFC with other brain regions during early abstinence.

Background: The relapse rate of alcohol dependence (AD) after detoxification is high, but few studies have investigated the clinical predictors of relapse after hospitalized detoxification in real-world clinical practice, especially among Chinese patients.

Methods: This longitudinal cohort study followed up 122 AD patients who were discharged from January 1, 2016 to January 30, 2018 from their most recent hospitalization for detoxification. These patients were interviewed by telephone from May 20, 2017, to June 30, 2018, at least 6 months after discharge.

Background/aims: Bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) and growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9), which are secreted by oocytes, are important regulators of follicular growth and development and ovarian function. These two factors can regulate the proliferation and apoptosis of cumulus cells via modulation of the Smad signaling pathway. Studies have shown that BMP15 and GDF9 can affect the level of miR-375, whereas the target gene of miR-375 is BMPR2, the type II receptor of BMP15 and GDF9.

The veins are a major site of bubble formation after decompression and the lung is a target organ of bubbles. Bubble-induced inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of decompression sickness (DCS). Macrophages play a central role in the inflammation, and macrophage polarization is closely related to the pathogenesis of some lung diseases.
