The localization of lipoprotein (Lol) system is responsible for the transport of lipoproteins in the outer membrane (OM) of . LolB catalyzes the last step in the Lol system, where lipoproteins are inserted into the OM. If the function of LolB is impeded, growth of is inhibited, due to lack of an intact OM barrier for protection against the external environment.

Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic coronavirus has put a lot of pressure on health systems around the world. One of the most common ways to detect COVID-19 is to use chest X-ray images, which have the advantage of being cheap and fast. However, in the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak, most studies applied pretrained convolutional neural network (CNN) models, and the features produced by the last convolutional layer were directly passed into the classification head.

Background: Data on the microbial community and functional proteins associated with degumming in kenaf remains scant. Here, we analyzed the microbial communities associated with kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) bast fibers during retting to identify potential candidate degumming bacteria. Retting liquids were collected and analyzed at 0 days, 10 days, and 34 days and then evaluated the yield and quality of kenaf fiber at the different retting times.

Aims: To investigate the relationship between metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in patients with biopsy-confirmed diabetic nephropathy (DN).

Methods: A total of 316 participants with biopsy-confirmed DN between January 2008 and December 2019 were retrospectively assessed. Kaplan-Meier curve and Cox proportional hazard models were used to compare the risk of incident ESRD in 50 patients with MAFLD and 50 patients without MAFLD, after using propensity score matching (PSM) to address the imbalances of sex, age, baseline-estimated glomerular filtration rate, serum albumin, 24-h urine protein, hemoglobin and systolic blood pressure.

Antibiotics are frequently used in aquaculture as feed additives and finally enter the marine environment that can pose potential threat to humans. In this study, magnetic molecularly imprinted nanocomposites were prepared by surface imprinting and applied as selective sorbents for specific capture of doxycycline. A multivariate approach based on response surface methodology with Box-Behnken design was adopted to optimize the dispersive solid-phase extraction of doxycycline from marine sediment.

Bacterial and biofilm infections are prevalent, photothermal antibacterial therapy exploiting Ag NPs was an alternative. However, various matrix materials including polysaccharides used to stabilize Ag NPs are not efficiently utilized. In this study, catechol functionalized quaternized chitin (DQC) is first synthesized, then Ag is in situ reduced to small Ag NPs stabilized and well-dispersed by DQC to form Ag NPs-incorporated quaternized chitin (DQCA) nanomicelle in a green and simple way.

In this work, a facile direct current atmospheric pressure micro-plasma (APM) technology was deployed for the synthesis of functional gold nanoparticle/chitosan (AuNP/CS) nanocomposites for the first time. Different experimental parameters, such as metal salt precursor concentration and chitosan viscosity, have been investigated to understand their effects on the resulting nanocomposite structures and properties. The nanocomposites were fully characterized using a wide range of material characterization techniques such as UV-vis, transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses.

A pyridinium functionalization chitosan (PCS) at high yield was facilely and solvothermally obtained from reactions of chitosan with N-2,4-dinitrophenyl-pyridinium chloride. The morphology and physical-chemical properties of PCS were tested with various techniques. Its sorption behaviors towards methyl orange (MO) and Cr(VI) were systematically investigated.

Background: Lipid metabolism pivotally contributes to the incidence and development of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The interaction of lipid metabolism and tumor microenvironment (TME) has become a new research direction.

Methods: Using the 1107 LUAD records from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, a comprehensive exploration was performed on the heterogeneous lipid metabolism subtypes based on lipid metabolism genes (LMGs) and immune-related genes (LRGs).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between body fat mass and insulin resistance in non-obese patients with idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) and normal glucose tolerance. A total of 42 patients with IHH and normal glucose tolerance, and BMI lower than 28 kg/m were recruited. Patients were required to have a normal glucose tolerance test for inclusion in the study.

Transition metal oxides are widely used in electrochemical detection because of the promotion of redox of heavy metal ions (HMIs) by valence change behavior. However, it is challenging to favorably promote the valence change to achieve the improvement of detection sensitivity. Herein, a MnO/g-CN composite (named as MO-CN) with small-sized of MnO and high proportion of Mn(II) and Mn(III) was prepared, which reveals an excellent performance on detecting mercury ion (Hg(II)).

Mammarenavirus are a large family of enveloped negative-strand RNA viruses that include several agents responsible for severe hemorrhagic fevers. Until now, no FDA-licensed drug has been admitted for treating an arenavirus infection, and only few effective anti-arenavirus drugs have been tested . In this work, we designed a recombinant reporter arenavirus lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus that stably expressed nanoluciferase (LCMV-Nluc).

The past decades have witnessed the archetypal shift from petroleum-based to bioplastics including poly(lactic acid) (PLA) for multifunctional packaging. Here we disclose a microwave-assisted functionalization (MAF) approach to functionalize wood fibers (FWFs) at minute level and high yields (approaching 99 %), conferring high affinity to PLA matrix and significant promotion of mechanical properties. By incorporating of 10 wt% FWFs, the tensile strength and toughness of PLA composite films were elevated to 54.

Objective: The rate of kidney function decline in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is known to differ. This study analyzed the clinicopathologic features and related risk factors affecting long-term renal survival in Chinese type 2 diabetic patients with rapid estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline.

Methods: In this retrospective descriptive study, 191 DKD patients were first classified as rapid eGFR decliners and slow eGFR decliners on the basis of the median eGFR slope value (-8.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematological malignancy resulting from the genetic alterations and epigenetic dysregulations of the hematopoietic progenitor cells. One-third of children with AML remain at risk of relapse even though outcomes have improved in recent decades. Epigenetic dysregulations have been identified to play a significant role during myeloid leukemogenesis.

Neonicotinoids are important insecticides for controlling aphids in agriculture. Growing research suggested that neonicotinoid insecticides are a key factor causing the decline of global pollinator insects, such as bees. Flupyrimin (FLP) is a novel nicotinic insecticide with unique biological properties and no cross-resistance, and is safe for pollinators.

Myricetin is a flavonoid widely-distributed in foods with many beneficial health effects, which has been marketed in health products. Formaldehyde is an environmental carcinogen which can enhance the Warburg effect through the induction of human hypoxia-inducible factor 1 subunit alpha (HIF-1α), the primary regulator of cellular glycolysis. HIF-1α was verified as an important target in lung and ovarian tumors, which was also identified as a receptor for myricetin via molecular docking.
