Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a highly hazardous mycotoxin widely found in food ingredients and processed products. In response to the demand for food safety, there is an urgent need to establish a highly sensitive, reliable, and cost-effective method for the detection of OTA. In this study, a simple, enzyme-free, sensitive cascade amplification fluorescent strategy was developed to detect OTA based on a magnetic separation system-assisted, multicomponent nuclease (MNAzyme) and its induced catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA).

Objective: Clinical experience and patient-level physiological studies indicate that albuterol transiently reduces oxygen saturation, irrespective of the underlying respiratory condition causing the wheezing. Three revisions of the Cochrane review, Bronchodilators for Bronchiolitis (Review), have found that albuterol temporarily increases oxygen saturation. Rarely, these findings were even statistically significant, but the direction of effect is consistently opposite from physiological studies.

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by tissue destruction and oxidative stress, primarily driven by the imbalance of immune responses. Bactericidal/permeability-increasing fold-containing family A member 1 (BPIFA1) has emerged as a key modulator of inflammation and immune homeostasis.

Objectives: This study investigates the role of BPIFA1 in periodontitis by focusing on its regulatory effects on the NF-κB/IκB signaling pathway and macrophage M1/M2 polarization.

A highly sensitive electrochemical nitrite sensor was developed by immobilizing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and tungsten disulfide quantum dots (WS QDs) on a conductive metal-organic frameworks (c-MOFs) consisting of Ni(HHTP) (HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) nanowires array via in-situ growth and photochemical deposition techniques. The electrochemical performance of the AgNPs@WSQDs-Ni(HHTP) sensor was significantly enhanced through the optimization of the growth duration of the Ni(HHTP), the content of WS QDs and the reduction time of Ag NPs. As a result, the prepared sensor exhibited a high sensitivity of 2200.

Background: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and morphology of middle mesial canal (MMC) in mandibular first molar (M1M) among a Northwestern Chinese population, and to analyze their relationship with anatomical aspects of the mesial root.

Methods: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was utilized to evaluate 898 M1Ms and assess the incidence and morphology of MMC. The following parameters for M1M with or without MMC were obtained: the vertical distance between the first appearance of MMC and canal orifices (D), the distance between mesiobuccal (MB) and mesiolingual (ML) canals (D1), the buccolingual width(L1) and mesiodistal width (L2) of mesial roots, and the flatness degree(L1/L2) of mesial roots.

Introduction: What interventions effectively prevent postoperative stenosis following endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial esophageal cancer? This study aimed to identify effective interventions or combinations through a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Methods: Six databases were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 30 April 2023, on interventions to prevent esophageal stenosis post-ER. Odds ratios (ORs) evaluated stenosis rate (primary outcome) and complications (secondary outcome), while mean differences (MD) evaluated endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) sessions post-stenosis.

Background: Ochratoxin A (OTA) is toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi and can pose a serious threat to food safety and human health. Due to the high stability and toxicity, OTA contamination in agricultural products is of great concern. Therefore, the development of a highly sensitive and reliable OTA detection method is crucial to ensure food safety.

Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors plus chemotherapy have been the standard of care in the first-line treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma; however, the survival benefits are modest in patients with low programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Here we investigated the efficacy and safety of cadonilimab (PD-1/cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) bispecific antibody) plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in G/GEJ adenocarcinoma. The prespecified interim analysis is reported here.

In this study, raw milk was collected from three different grades of pastures and processed by pasteurization, blending and ultra-high temperature sterilization (UHT) in a factory production line with a feed size of 10 tons. Additionally, all samples (from raw milk to UHT milk samples) were analyzed by -nose and GC-MS. Key flavor compounds such as 2-heptanone, hexanal, nonanal, 3-methyl-butanal, and dimethyl sulfide were found.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between depression, cognitive function, social activities and activities of daily living ( ADL ), and verify whether social activities and ADL have a chain mediating effect between depression and cognitive function. Using the data of the fourth phase of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study ( CHARLS ), 7547 elderly samples were studied. Correlation analysis and Bootstrap method were used to analyze the data to test whether social activities and ADL played a chain mediating role between depression and cognitive function in the elderly.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared coagulation and platelet parameters between 202 women with spontaneous premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and 202 age-matched controls with benign gynecological conditions.
  • Results showed women with POI had higher fibrinogen levels and platelet distribution width (PDW), but lower platelet count, mean platelet volume, and plateletcrit levels, indicating potential abnormalities in platelet function.
  • The findings suggest that women with POI may have increased cardiovascular disease risk due to altered platelet and fibrinogen levels, but no significant coagulation abnormalities were found.

  • The study aimed to identify clinical factors linked to keratoconus (KC) risk using data from the All of Us Research Program, examining 572 KC patients matched with 1716 controls.
  • Key findings revealed that ocular surface disease and obesity had the strongest positive correlations with KC, while smoking was negatively correlated.
  • The research highlights that increased exposure to estrogen and tetracycline medications are new risk factors for KC, emphasizing the importance of recognizing these for early diagnosis and interventions.

Background: To address the growing burden of older adult care, the Chinese government has introduced a policy that integrates medical care with elder care, launching two batches of national pilot projects. A majority of the older adult population suffers from one or more chronic diseases, with many experiencing multiple chronic conditions, necessitating support from both elder care and medical services.

Methods: Using panel data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) spanning 2011 to 2020, this study employs the difference-in-difference (DID) model to analyze the impact of the integrated medical-nursing policy on the physical health of older patients with chronic diseases.
