Background: Attribution models have been examined in Western countries. However, little is known about the applicability of the attitude-emotion-behavior model within Chinese culture. This study aimed to examine the association between familiarity, perceived dangerousness, fear, and social distance towards persons with mental illness (PMI) in the Chinese context.

Black rice diet alleviates colorectal cancer development through modulating tryptophan metabolism and activating AHR pathway.

Consumption of dietary fiber and anthocyanin has been linked to a lower incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study scrutinizes the potential antitumorigenic attributes of a black rice diet (BRD), abundantly rich in dietary fiber and anthocyanin. Our results demonstrate notable antitumorigenic effects in mice on BRD, indicated by a reduction in both the size and number of intestinal tumors and a consequent extension in life span, compared to control diet-fed counterparts.

Male-Biased Gut Microbiome and Metabolites Aggravate Colorectal Cancer Development.

Men demonstrate higher incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) than women. This study aims to explain the potential causes of such sexual dimorphism in CRC from the perspective of sex-biased gut microbiota and metabolites. The results show that sexual dimorphism in colorectal tumorigenesis is observed in both Apc mice and azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treated mice with male mice have significantly larger and more tumors, accompanied by more impaired gut barrier function.

Methods: A total of 269 PWS and their family caregivers in Xinjin district, Chengdu, China were investigated on medication adherence and related factors.

Background: Affiliate stigma of family caregivers may severely influence family caregiving, early treatment, and recovery of people with mental illness (PMI), and it may be impacted by the knowledge of mental illness and contact with PMI. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and safety of this technique in patients with CMI.

Methods: The CT data of 73 CMI patients and 73 healthy controls were retrospectively analyzed.

Stigma of mental illness and cultural factors in Pacific Rim region: a systematic review.

Background: Although cultural factors play a crucial role in experience of stigma, there is scant review on the impact and importance of culture on stigma of mental illness across Pacific Rim Region. This study aims to investigate: 1) the cultural factors related to stigmatizing beliefs about mental illness in Pacific Rim region, and 2) culture-specific measures and interventions on stigma of mental illness.

Methods: A systematic search of papers was conducted in the MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Scopus, Cochrane Library and Google scholar through January 2003 to April 2019.

The mediating role of knowledge on the contact and stigma of mental illness in Hong Kong.

Background: Although knowledge is a crucial component in contact theory delineating how prejudice changes toward out-groups with stigmatized conditions, little is known about the mediating role of knowledge on contact, stigmatizing attitudes, and behaviors toward mental illness.

Background: Self-stigma exerts a range of adversities for persons with severe mental illness (SMI), however, little is known about the association between peer contact, social support and self-stigma.

Aims: This study aimed to explore the mediating role of social support on the relationship between peer contact and self-stigma among persons with SMI in Hong Kong.

Methods: A total of 159 persons with SMI (schizophrenia and mood disorder) in community service centres participated in the study through completing a survey on self-stigma, social functioning, social support, perception of peer contact and mass media.

A 19-segment human model was developed and bilateral lower-limb joint loadings were estimated using computer stimulation.

Predictive factors for pituitary response to pulsatile GnRH therapy in patients with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) may induce spermatogenesis in most patients with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) by stimulating gonadotropin production, while the predictors for a pituitary response to pulsatile GnRH therapy were rarely investigated. Therefore, the aim of our study is to investigate predictors of the pituitary response to pulsatile GnRH therapy. This retrospective cohort study included 82 CHH patients who received subcutaneous pulsatile GnRH therapy for at least 1 month.

Association between insulin therapy and risk of liver cancer among diabetics: a meta-analysis of epidemiological studies.

As the results of the association between insulin therapy and risk of liver cancer among diabetics have been inconsistent in epidemiological studies, we conducted a meta-analysis to quantify this issue. Data of relevant epidemiological studies were collected by searching articles in PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase till 29 June 2017. Random-effects models were employed to combine study-specific risks.

[Effect of inhibiting TIM-4 function in Kupffer cells on liver graft rejection in mice].

Objective: To investigate the effects of inhibiting TIM-4 function in Kupffer cells (KCs) on liver graft rejection in mice and explore the underlying mechanism.

Methods: Mouse models of orthotopic liver transplantation were treated with a control mAb group and TIM-4 mAb. The activated KCs were assayed with immunohistochemistry after operation.

Both pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) infusion and combined gonadotropin therapy (human chorionic gonadotropin and human menopausal gonadotropin [HCG/HMG]) are effective to induce spermatogenesis in male patients with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH). However, evidence is lacking as to which treatment strategy is better. This retrospective cohort study included 202 patients with CHH: twenty had received pulsatile GnRH and 182 had received HCG/HMG.

Lindenane sesquiterpenoid dimers from Chloranthus japonicus inhibit HIV-1 and HCV replication.

Phytochemical investigation on the whole plant of Chloranthus japonicus (Chloranthaceae) led to the isolation and identification of three new lindenane-type sesquiterpenoid dimers, chlorajaponilides F-H (1-3), along with seven known ones (4-10). Their chemical structures were established by extensive spectral evidence. Compounds 1 and 2 are both dimeric sesquiterpenoids featuring a rare hydroperoxy group at C-5.

Chemical constituents from the roots of Ampelopsis delavayana and their antibacterial activities.

Two new aromatic glycosides, 2-methylphenyl O-β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (1) and 2-methylphenyl O-α-arabinofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-glucopyranoside (2), together with eight known compounds were isolated from the roots of Ampelopsis delavayana. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Furthermore, the in vitro antibacterial activities of 1 and 2 were investigated using serial twofold dilution in three bacteria including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.

Study on the Detection of Rice Seed Germination Rate Based on Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology Combined with Generalized Regression Neural Network.

On the basis of the differences in physiology and physics of rice seed with different aging time, the paper proposes a fast and nondestructive method which is based on infrared thermal imaging technology and generalized regression neural network to detect the germination rate of rice seed. This method solves the problems of long experimental period, complex operations and other disadvantages of the traditional method which is used to detect germination rate. When the temperature is 45 ℃ and humidity is 90%, the rice seeds are aged for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 d respectively to get rice seeds of different germination rate.

Cannulation Selection of Portal Venous and Splenic Venous Catheterization in Venovenous Bypass of Swine Orthotopic Liver Transplantation.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to compare the hemodynamic changes in 2 different cannulations in portal system (portal venous catheterization and splenic venous catheterization) during venovenous bypass (VVB) of swine orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty pairs (a total of 60) of healthy Duroc pigs were selected for OLT. According to the difference of cannulation in portal venous system during VVB, these pigs were divided into 2 groups: the PVC group (pigs with portal venous catheterization, n=15) and the SVC group (pigs with splenic venous catheterization, n=15). Intraoperative hemodynamic parameters were monitored continuously.

Previous study have demonstrated that not only the anorectal development but also the general conditions of anorectal malformations (ARMs) male rats are severely affected by di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) maternal exposure. However, the mechanisms underlying DBP-induced congenital defects remain elusive. Reportedly, Fgf10/Fgfr2 and androgen receptor (AR) are pivotal for the development of multiple organs.

Efficacy of HBV-pulsed DCs in combination with entecavir in patients with chronic hepatitis B infection.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are multifunctional cells that initiate adaptive immune responses. Patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection have reduced numbers of DCs which may be functionally impaired, a defect that may contribute to viral persistence. Autologous DC-based immunotherapy is considered to be a treatment option for chronic HBV infection (CHB).

Type 2 diabetes and the risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: a report from two population-based cohort studies in China.

Coinciding with the increased incidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) during the past decades, there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in mainland China. We therefore evaluated whether type 2 diabetes (T2D) is associated with the risk of NHL using data from the Shanghai Men's Health Study (SMHS) and the Shanghai Women's Health Study (SWHS). The SMHS and SWHS are two on-going, prospective, population-based cohorts of more than 130 000 Chinese adults in urban Shanghai.
