Bacterial biofilms are one of the major contributors to the refractoriness of septic arthritis. Although nitric oxide (NO)-enhanced photodynamic (PDT) therapy has been involved in biofilm eradication, the anti-biofilm efficacy is usually hindered by the short half-life and limited diffusion distance of active molecules. Herein, we report a three-arm structure using the photosensitive core chlorin e6 to integrate three α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) polyrotaxane chains as the supramolecular nanocarrier of NO-enhanced PDT therapy, in which NO was loaded on the cationic rings (α-CDs).

  • Post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) is a serious chronic lung disease in children that can develop after severe respiratory infections, and recognizing risk factors can enhance treatment options.
  • A study examined 308 children under five with PIBO and found high rates of ventilation use, co-infections, and a history of atopic conditions, with adenovirus often being a primary cause.
  • Further analysis indicated that co-infection, atopic conditions, and the length of fever are significant independent risk factors for developing PIBO following adenovirus pneumonia.

  • - This study examined how lotus seed epicarp phenolic extract (LSEPE) can lower blood sugar levels by inhibiting enzymes that break down starch, which slows carbohydrate digestion.
  • - LSEPE contains significant amounts of phenolic compounds and demonstrates a strong inhibitory effect on enzymes α-amylase and α-glucosidase, outperforming the common diabetes medication acarbose.
  • - The extract alters the enzymes' environment and increases the amounts of slowly digestible and resistant starch, suggesting its potential as a natural ingredient for creating functional foods aimed at managing high blood sugar.

The reasons for the high recurrence and metastasis after triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) surgery are the potential presence of micrometastases and disseminated tumor cells in the circulation, as well as the immunosuppressive microenvironment caused by the surgery. To address these issues, this work proposed a platelets (PLTs) based hydrogel delivery system for immuno-chemotherapy, (IL-12+NP-PLT)@dAlg. To utilize the targeting ability of PLTs toward tumor cells and maintain the activity of PLTs, doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles (NP) were attached on the surface of PTLs (NP-PLT).

Polarization is a fundamental characteristic of electromagnetic (EM) waves, and accurately determining the polarization state is crucial for spectral imaging and information processing. However, implementing broadband polarization detection in the terahertz (THz) range poses significant challenges when employing conventional optics. This paper proposes and experimentally evaluates a broadband polarization detection strategy using all-dielectric metasurfaces.

In this work, we propose an Nd-doped double-layer anti-resonant phosphate fiber with a core diameter of 50 µm for high-power single-mode 900 nm laser generation. Double-layer interlaced anti-resonant elements were designed here to enhance the fundamental mode confinement capability of the large-mode-area Nd-doped fiber core. Moreover, a double-layer F-P etalon formed between the anti-resonant elements and the inner cladding was analyzed for the first time for fiber loss manipulation.

The hybrid nature of the mid-infrared (MIR) spectrum complicates the separation of reflected solar irradiance from total energy. Consequently, existing studies rarely use MIR satellite data alone for retrieving land surface temperature (LST) and land surface emissivity (LSE). In this study, we developed What we believe to be a novel physics-based approach to retrieve LSE and LST using MIR channel data from the MEdium Resolution Spectral Imager II (MERSI-II) onboard China's new-generation polar-orbiting meteorological satellite Fengyun-3D (FY-3D).

Biomimetic curved compound-eye cameras (BCCECs) have attracted great attention for their potential applications in a variety of fields such as target recognition, monitor and three-dimensional localization in military due to their unique optical properties such as large field of view (FOV) and small size. In this work, we proposed a multi-target distance measurement method based on a dual-BCCEC system in a large FOV. To guarantee the precise measurement of the distance of multiple targets, a feature point searching and matching algorithm is developed for the dual-BCCEC system to improve the localizing efficiency of common feature points.

Machine learning-based demodulation of multi-peak fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors has been extensively studied, demonstrating superior performance compared to conventional algorithms because it can neglect potential physical constraints. As the number of real-world monitoring points increases, the volume of fiber-optic sensing data grows exponentially. This necessitates aggregating data from various regions (e.

High dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamut (WCG) images are now commonly available, challenging the property of the existing color spaces, which play an important role in color image processing and color vision applications. In this study, a perceptually uniform color space is proposed for HDR and WCG image processing. The basic structure of this color space is reconstructed by two 3D projection transformation matrices and a modified nonlinear function.

Chiral metasurfaces with high quality factors (Q-factors) and strong circular dichroism (CD) are excellent platforms for studying chiral optical response. Here, a design is proposed of an intrinsic chiral silicon metasurface driven by bound states in the continuum (BIC), with ultra-high Q-factor (Q = 3722) and chirality response close to the unit CD (CD > 0.99).

The orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing holography has the advantages of large information capacity and high security, and has important application value in holographic storage, optical encryption, and optical computing. However, as the number of multiplexing channels increases, this technology suffers from deterioration in image quality, which limits its application scope. This article proposes an innovative design that introduces an optical diffractive neural network (ODNN) into OAM multiplexing holography, establishes a scientific image quality evaluation function, applies an end-to-end optimization method, and designs OAM multiplexing holograms in parallel, significantly improving the image quality of OAM holography.
