Background: The pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with a global prevalence of 30% is multifactorial and the involvement of gut bacteria has been recently proposed. However, finding robust bacterial signatures of NAFLD has been a great challenge, mainly due to its co-occurrence with other metabolic diseases.
Results: Here, we collected public metagenomic data and integrated the taxonomy profiles with in silico generated community metabolic outputs, and detailed clinical data, of 1206 Chinese subjects w/wo metabolic diseases, including NAFLD (obese and lean), obesity, T2D, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.
The analysis of human exhaled gas is crucial for early and noninvasive diagnosis. However, the complex composition and high-humidity of exhaled gas pose significant challenges to the application of gas sensors. This research focuses on the development of a chemiresistive ammonia sensor based on the polyaniline/tin disulfide (PANI/SnS) heterojunction, which is fabricated by hydrothermal and in-situ polymerization techniques.

The urgency of controlling respiratory pathogens has intensified. This issue organizes expert discussions to address the resurgence of various respiratory pathogens, summarizing current status of pathogen surveillance, drug-resistance research and vaccine development, while suggesting countermeasures.

However, fouling by typical surfactants significantly reduces membrane efficiency and lifespan. This study investigates the fouling mechanisms of typical surfactants-cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB, cationic), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, anionic), and polyoxyethylene octyl phenyl ether (TX, nonionic)-on RO membranes.

According to the results of mRNA-seq, transcription factor AP-2 Beta (TFAP2B) is a potential target of repetitive Transspinal Magnetic Stimulation (rTSMS) in SCI treatment. Our results demonstrated that rTSMS significantly improved motor function and promoted neuronal survival post-SCI.

Between 2016 and 2017, an open-label study was conducted to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of hepatitis E vaccine (HepE) in CHB patients, using healthy adults as parallel controls in China. Eligible participants who were aged ≥30 y were enrolled in the study.

Methods: EBSCO, PubMed, Web of Science, and China Knowledge Network databases (core) were searched up to August 1, 2023. Experimental studies of implementing OEP based on digital technology to improve outcomes related to falls in the elderly were included.
Background: The role of anticoagulation in asymptomatic cirrhotic patients with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anticoagulation in this patient population.
Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase up to August 2024.

Book localization is crucial for the development of intelligent book inventory systems, where the high-precision detection of book spines is a critical requirement. However, the varying tilt angles and diverse aspect ratios of books on library shelves often reduce the effectiveness of conventional object detection algorithms. To address these challenges, this study proposes an enhanced oriented R-CNN algorithm for book spine detection.

The optimal diagnostic method and screening strategy for GDM remain contentious. In this review, we summarize the criteria and methods for diagnosing GDM, and perform a comparison between universal and selective screening strategies.

However, its photosynthetic efficiency, a pivotal determinant of yield, remains relatively low compared with other C plants such as rice and soybean, highlighting the necessity of identifying the genetic loci and genes regulating photosynthesis in rapeseed.

Although GBE has been extensively studied in the prevention and treatment of lung diseases, its mechanism of action in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is unclear. In the present study, cigarette smoke extract (CSE) and cigarette smoke (CS) were used to induce COPD in cell and animal models.

Methods: Adults with active r-axSpA who met modified New York criteria and had an inadequate response to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were randomised 1:1:1 to receive jaktinib 75 mg two times per day, 100 mg two times per day, or placebo. The primary and key secondary endpoints were Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society 20 (ASAS 20) and ASAS 40 responses, respectively, at week 16.
Background: Approximately 70% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is underdiagnosed worldwide. We aimed to develop and validate a COPD self-evaluation questionnaire (COPD-EQ) that is better suited for COPD screening in China.
Methods: We developed a primary version of COPD-EQ based on the Delphi method.
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) presents a substantial clinical challenge due to the limited understanding of its genetic underpinnings. Here we conduct the largest scale whole-exome sequencing association study of NPC to date, encompassing 6,969 NPC cases and 7,100 controls. We unveil 3 germline genetic variants linked to NPC susceptibility: a common rs2276868 in RPL14, a rare rs5361 in SELE, and a common rs1050462 in HLA-B.

Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium that can cause pulmonary infections, lymphadenitis, skin and soft tissue infections, disseminated infections, among others, as a conditional pathogenic bacterium.
Case Presentation: We present the case of a 43-year-old Chinese woman who developed disseminated Mycobacterium abscessus infection due to idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is characterized by anxiety, excessive fear, distress, and weakness as symptoms of a psychiatric disorder. However, the mechanism associated with its symptoms such as anxiety-like behaviors is not well understood. It is aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the medial septum (MS)-medial habenula (MHb) neural circuit modulating the anxiety-like behaviors of PTSD mice through in vivo fiber photometry recording, optogenetics, behavioral testing by open-field and elevated plus maze, fluorescent gold retrograde tracer technology, and viral tracer technology.

While these CO sequestration technologies offer low-cost routes to net-zero emissions, namely, the CST benefits, they impede progress to the Sustainable Development Goals, namely, the CST disbenefits. Focusing on China, we assess both the CST disbenefits and benefits in the climate-energy-air-health cascade by an integrated modeling framework.
