Non-dairy whipped creams (NDWC) are a typical food emulsion system and are gaining popularity among consumers. Oleogels as reasonable alternatives to trans and saturated fats in foods show great potential application in NDWC. Effects of different proportions of oleogel (30 %-70 %) as base oil on the crystallization behavior, appearance, interface and rheological properties of NDWC were evaluated.

Background: Tear trough deformities are indicative of aging, progressively manifesting as pronounced infraorbital hollows. Although hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers are favored for their safety and efficacy, quantifiable evidence of their effect of action still remains insufficient.

Aims: To investigate the efficacy of non-cross-linked HA compound in tear trough enhancement.

Starch, as the primary storage material in maize endosperm, is essential in determining yield and quality. Although the starch biosynthetic pathway in maize has been well-documented, the transcriptional network underlying endosperm starch synthesis remains elusive. Through a comprehensive co-expression analysis, we screened an endosperm-preferential AP2/ERF transcription factor ZmEREB25, which exhibited a strong correlation with the expression pattern of starch biosynthetic genes in maize endosperm.

Background: Compared with conventional laparoscopic surgery, natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) has many advantages. Laparoscopic right colectomy with transvaginal specimen extraction has been reported, but the safety and feasibility of transrectal specimen extraction in male patients with ascending colon cancer remain to be verified. This study aimed to preliminarily evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with transrectal specimen extraction.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the pathological and perioperative outcomes of extracorporeal versus intracorporeal anastomosis after laparoscopic transverse colon cancer resection.

Methods: In this retrospective study, patients from seven institutions in China who underwent laparoscopic resection of transverse colon cancer between 2019 and 2021 were selected and included. Either extended right hemicolectomy or transverse colectomy/extended left hemicolectomy was performed.

Background: Laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (LaTME) is a technically challenging for ultralow-lying rectal cancer in obese male patients. Herein, we introduced modified serial techniques "ASTRO" to facilitate LaTME, and the short-term outcomes were presented.

Methods: A prospective study (NCT05067413) was conducted between December 2020 and January 2022.

Breast cancer patients often have recurrence and metastasis after surgery. Predicting the risk of recurrence and metastasis for a breast cancer patient is essential for the development of precision treatment. In this study, we proposed a novel multi-modal deep learning prediction model by integrating hematoxylin & eosin (H&E)-stained histopathological images, clinical information and gene expression data.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how transvaginal specimen removal affects sexual function, quality of life, and short-term outcomes in colorectal cancer patients.
  • A total of 100 patients were analyzed, comparing one group that had a transvaginal approach with another that used traditional laparoscopic techniques; various surgical metrics were tracked.
  • Results showed the transvaginal group had less blood loss and shorter hospital stays, but there was no notable difference in sexual function or complication rates between the two groups, although the transvaginal group had a higher lymph node retrieval and better quality of life after six months.

Background: Natural orifice specimen extraction has been shown to reduce postoperative pain and wound complications, and provide better cosmetic outcome. However, whether transvaginal specimen extraction affects sexual function remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the short-term outcomes, sexual function, cosmetic outcomes and prognosis after colon cancer surgery with transvaginal specimen extraction.

Background: Totally laparoscopic right colectomy has been demonstrated to be safe and feasible. Two manners of anastomosis, namely, antiperistaltic and isoperistaltic stapled side-to-side anastomosis, have been described before. However, research concerning the influence of different peristaltic orientations on anastomosis is rare and, if there is, included relatively small cases without long-term outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Adoptive cell therapies need effective recovery and expansion of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), which are rare and challenging to isolate, limiting their therapeutic effectiveness.
  • A new microfluidic device uses magnets to separate TILs from solid tumors by taking advantage of specific cell-surface markers, enabling a significant increase in TIL recovery compared to traditional methods.
  • This advanced sorting technique not only enhances TIL quantity and diversity for better therapeutic efficacy but also helps identify key TIL subpopulations that are crucial for the success of these therapies.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the safety and outcomes of three techniques for natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) in patients with rectal cancer.
  • A total of 268 patients were analyzed after undergoing different NOSES techniques: specimen eversion (EVER), specimen extraction (EXER), and intra-abdominal resection (IREX), with follow-up on complications and long-term survival rates.
  • Results showed that while the complication rates varied among techniques, the long-term survival outcomes did not differ significantly, highlighting the importance of tumor location in selecting the surgical approach.

Converging evidence suggests that deficits in somatostatin (SST)-expressing neuron signaling contributes to major depressive disorder. Preclinical studies show that enhancing this signaling, specifically at α5 subunit-containing γ-ami-nobutyric acid subtype A receptors (α5-GABARs), provides a potential means to overcome low SST neuron function. The cortical microcircuit comprises multiple subtypes of inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurons and excitatory pyramidal cells (PYCs).

To examine the effects of different functionalization methods on adsorption behavior, anionic-exchange MIL-101(Cr) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized using preassembled modification (PAM) and postsynthetic modification (PSM) methods. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) adsorption results indicated that the maximum PFOA adsorption capacity was 1.19 and 1.
