Article Synopsis
  • Myopia, or nearsightedness, is becoming more common in children, and its potential link to lack of sleep is being explored, though results have varied.
  • A systematic review of 657 articles narrowed down to 40 studies and found that insufficient sleep significantly increases the prevalence of myopia and high myopia in children.
  • The study suggests that ensuring children get enough sleep, along with encouraging outdoor activities and limiting close-up work, is important for reducing the risk of developing myopia.

The association of cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), with subclinical cardiac dysfunction in hypertensive patients is unclear. We aim to examine their relationship in hypertensive patients compared with that in normotensive subjects. Our study included 1887 subjects enrolled from Danyang between 2018 and 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) with subclinical cardiac dysfunction in a Chinese population.
  • Using data from 1558 participants, the findings reveal that men generally have higher VAT but lower EAT compared to women, indicating a significant sexual dimorphism in adipose tissue distribution.
  • The analysis shows that both EAT thickness and VAT area are linked to measures of cardiac function, suggesting that higher levels of these fat types may correlate with poorer cardiac health, although results varied after adjusting for other influencing factors.

Introduction: This study was conducted to explore the characteristics and risk factors of e-cigarette use in adolescents, aiming for tobacco control and reducing e-cigarette use in this population.

Methods: Using 1:1 matching, 88 students from three vocational high schools in Shanghai were recruited to conduct a case (using e-cigarettes) - control (not using e-cigarettes) study. Group interviews and questionnaire surveys were used for this qualitative and quantitative mixed-methods study.

Ultrafiltration combined with nanoliquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (nano-LC-QTOF-MS) and sensory evaluation was used to separate and identify umami peptides in chicken breast soup. Fifteen peptides with umami propensity scores of >588 were identified from the fraction (molecular weight ≤1 kDa) using nano-LC-QTOF-MS, and their concentrations ranged from 0.02 ± 0.

As air pollution worsens, the fast prediction of air pollutant concentration becomes increasingly important for public health. This paper proposes a new cross-domain prediction model of air pollutant concentration based on federated learning (FL), differential privacy laplace mechanism (DPLA) and long and short-term memory network optimized by sparrow search algorithm (SSA-LSTM), named FL-DPLA-SSA-LSTM. Firstly, with FL, SSA-LSTM is used as local training model for each city and predicts air pollutant concentration.

Background: Global longitudinal strain (GLS) can be assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) to express the degree of cardiac fibrosis. Qianyangyuyin (QYYY) granules can effectively improve GLS in hypertensive patients. Using a hypertensive rat model, we carried out speckle tracking echocardiography to validate the effect of QYYY in diminishing LV remodeling.

Aims: The association of strictly defined metabolic healthy obese (MHO) with subclinical cardiac function was unclear. Our study aims to examine the role of MHO in subclinical cardiac dysfunction in a Chinese population.

Methods And Results: The study subjects were recruited from Danyang from 2017 to 2019.

The association of albuminuria, as measured by urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) concentration, with subclinical cardiac dysfunction in hypertensive patients is unclear. Our study aimed to examine its relationship in hypertensive patients compared with that in normotensive patients. The study participants were recruited from Danyang, a city of Jiangsu Province from 2017 to 2019.

Diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. In patients with diabetes, ulcers occur frequently and heal slowly. Grading and staging of diabetic ulcers is the first step of effective treatment and wound depth and granulation tissue amount are two important indicators of wound healing progress.
