Article Synopsis
  • Tire wear particles (TWPs) are tiny pieces of black plastic that come from tires and can pollute water, but people often don't pay attention to them.
  • This study looked at how natural things like light and heat change TWPs over time and how they release harmful substances into the water.
  • The researchers found that aging TWPs can become more dangerous, releasing heavy metals and toxins that could hurt small organisms in water.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of physical measures and the applications of phosphorus fertilizer and soil conditioner on the growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and its uptake of cadmium (Cd). In a solar greenhouse that contained soil enriched with cadmium (Cd) (1.75 ± 0.

Drought is a major obstacle to the development of naked oat industry. This work investigated mechanisms by which exogenous Streptomyces albidoflavus T4 and Streptomyces rochei D74 improved drought tolerance in naked oat (Avena nuda ) seedlings. Results showed that in the seed germination experiment, germination rate, radicle and hypocotyl length of naked oat seeds treated with the fermentation filtrate of T4 or D74 under PEG induced drought stress increased significantly.

Phytoremediation is an effective way to reduce heavy metal content in agricultural soil. The effects of brackish water irrigation on phytoremediation efficiency of plants have not yet been completely understood. In this study, the effects of brackish water irrigation on cadmium (Cd) uptake by maize as the phytoremediator were investigated.

A two-year in-situ phytoremediation trial was launched in Shenyang Zhangshi (Sewage) Irrigation Area (SZIA). The phytoremediation efficiency of Solanum nigrum L. was determined, by both monitoring the change of soil Cadmium level in the upper 20 cm of soil, and calculating the plant uptake of soil Cd.

Because of its high Cd uptake and translocation, lettuce is often used in Cd contamination studies. However, there is a lack of information on Cd accumulation in the above-ground parts of lettuce during the entire growing season. In this study, a field experiment was carried out in a Cd-contaminated area.

A microcosm experiment with artificially contaminated soils was conducted in a greenhouse to evaluate the effect of gibberellic acid 3 (GA3) on phytoremediation efficiency of Solanum nigrum L. The GA3 was applied at three different concentrations (10, 100, 1000 mg L(-1)) to S. nigrum.
