Although some tumor markers (CEA, CYFRA21-1, NSE, CA19-9) in the patient's serum were elevated, carcinomas were excluded by a variety of inspections including bone marrow aspirations, ultrasound examinations, and whole-body PET-CT scans. It was concluded that serum tumor markers are considered medically necessary as a screening test for brucellosis with HLH, however, detailed inspections were needed to make a final diagnosis.

Objective: To study Fusarium solani infection as a complication in patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and to discuss the diagnosis and appropriate therapy.
Methods: Symptoms, physical examination, laboratory tests, computed tomographic (CT) scans, treatments and outcomes of Fusarium solani infection in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were retrospectively analyzed, and related literatures reviewed.
Results: The patient developed pulmonary infiltration and systemic multiple subcutaneous masses after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Metallothioneins (MTs) are cysteine-rich proteins that assist in cellular homeostasis and protect against oxidant injury. MTs can be induced by heavy metals and inflammatory mediators and function as free radical scavengers, reservoirs for essential heavy metals, and immunomodulators. In light of MTs' roles in responses to stress, we evaluated the in vivo effects of MT gene dose on the course of Listeria monocytogenes (LM) infection.
