Soft magnetic spinel ferrites are indispensable parts in devices such as transformers and inductors. Mechanical surface processing is a necessary step to realize certain shapes and surface roughness in producing the ferrite but also has a negative effect on the magnetic properties of the ferrite. In the past few years, a new surface layer was always believed to form during the mechanical surface processing, but the change of atomic structure on the surface and its effect on the magnetic structure remain unclear.

However, its exact lattice occupation and relationship with intrinsic magnetic properties remain unclear. Here, we successfully prepared Ca-doped cobalt ferrite (CoFeO) nanoparticles by electrospinning.
