Introduction: Soft rot (SRP) bacteria are globally dispersed pathogens that cause significant economic loss in potato and other crops. Our understanding of the SRP species diversity has expanded in recent years due to advances and adoption of whole-genome sequence technologies. There are currently 34 recognized SRP species that belong to the and genera.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of high-flow nasal cannulae (HFNC) for elderly patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF), comparing it to conventional oxygen therapy.
  • It involved 200 patients, showing that those treated with HFNC had significantly better vital sign improvements post-treatment but also a higher rate of complications.
  • The research identified the APACHE II score as a key risk factor for poor prognosis, while HFNC was found to have a protective effect, indicating its potential benefits in managing ARF in older adults.

The biological mechanisms underlying the development of myopia have not yet been completely elucidated. The retina is critical for visual signal processing, which primarily utilizes aerobic glycolysis to produce lactate as a metabolic end product. Lactate facilitates lysine lactylation (Kla), a posttranslational modification essential for transcriptional regulation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how electroacupuncture (EA) affects retinal function in guinea pigs with negative lens-induced myopia by targeting the RhoA/ROCK2 signaling pathway.
  • The research divided guinea pigs into several groups, with measurements taken on factors like refraction, retinal blood flow, and antioxidant levels, along with observations of retinal structure changes post-treatment.
  • Results indicated that EA significantly improved retinal function by increasing blood flow and antioxidant levels, while decreasing myopic refraction and harmful oxidative markers, as well as reducing the expression of key signaling molecules compared to the LIM group.

This study explored the phospholipid metabolic pathway in and its relationship with fungal growth, metabolism, and pathogenicity. ChoC, based on its critical roles in many aspects of the fungus and relatively conserved characteristics in filamentous fungi with low similarity with mammalian ones, can be a novel target of new antifungal drugs.

Background: Zinc finger protein X-linked (ZFX) has been shown to promote the growth of tumor cells, including leukemic cells. However, the role of ZFX in the growth and drug response of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) stem/progenitor cells remains unclear.

Methods: Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and immunofluorescence were used to analyze the expression of ZFX and WNT3 in CML CD34 cells compared with normal control cells.

Purpose: This study aimed to automatically and quantitatively analyse the characteristics of the optic disc by applying artificial intelligence (AI) to fundus images.

Methods: A total of 1084 undergraduates were recruited in this cross-sectional study. The optic disc area, cup-to-disc ratio (C/D), optic disc tilt, and the area, width, and height of peripapillary atrophy (PPA) were automatically and quantitatively detected using AI.

Myopia has become the major cause of visual impairment worldwide. Although the pathogenesis of myopia remains controversial, proteomic studies suggest that dysregulation of retinal metabolism is potentially involved in the pathology of myopia. Lysine acetylation of proteins plays a key role in regulating cellular metabolism, but little is known about its role in the form-deprived myopic retina.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to use artificial intelligence to quantitatively measure fundus tessellated density (FTD) in young adults, assessing the impact of various factors.
  • A total of 1,084 undergraduates aged 17-23 were categorized based on their axial length, and FTD was calculated by examining specific areas of the fundus.
  • Results showed that 92.5% of students had their FTD successfully extracted, and significant correlations were found between FTD and factors like male sex, longer axial length, and specific choroidal characteristics.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of purified β-glucosidases from SLY-4, F2-24, and HX-13 (named as SLY-4E, F2-24E, and HX-13E, respectively) on the flavor complexity and typicality of wines. Cabernet Sauvignon wines were fermented by with the addition of SLY-4E, F2-24E, and HX-13E; the fermentation process and characteristics of wines were analyzed. The addition of SLY-4E, F2-24E, and HX-13E into must improved the contents of terpenes, higher alcohols, and esters, and decreased the contents of C compounds and fatty acids, which enhanced the fruity, floral, and taste aspects, reducing the unpleasant green of wines with no significant difference in their appearance.

Although growth arrest-specific protein 2 (GAS2) promotes the growth of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) cells in culture, the effect of GAS2 on T-cell leukemogenesis has not been studied, and the mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, xenograft studies showed that GAS2 silencing impaired T-cell leukemogenesis and decreased leukemic cell infiltration. Mechanistically, GAS2 regulated the protein expression of C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) rather than its transcript expression.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of crude extracts of β-glucosidase from SLY-4, F2-24 and HX-13 (termed as SLY-4E, F2-24E and HX-13E) on the flavor complexity and typicality of Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The grape must was fermented using with single or mixed SLY-4E, F2-24E and HX-13E. The physicochemical characteristics, volatile aroma compounds, total anthocyanins and sensory attributes of the wines were determined.

Vinegar is an acid condiment shared all over the world. According to the raw materials, vinegar can be mainly divided into fruit and cereal ones, both of which possess unique aroma and flavor characteristics and corresponding volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Many studies about vinegar VOCs' (VVOCs) sorts, analytical methods, and forming mechanisms have been done.

Non- yeast with -glucosidase activity might positively contribute to the flavor and quality of wines. The contribution of four non- yeast strains SLY-4, F2-24, F2-16, and HX-13 with -glucosidase activity to the flavor and quality of wine making was studied. Compared with those of single fermentation, the four non- yeast strains could grow and consume sugar completely with longer fermentation periods, and with no significantly negative effect on chemical characteristics of wines.
