Background: The optimal treatment for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries with early-stage symptomless osteoarthritis (OA) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of ACL reconstruction (ACLR) in patients with ACL injury in the presence and absence of early-stage symptomless OA.

Methods: Medical records of patients with early-stage symptomless OA who sustained ACL injury and underwent ACLR from January 2018 to December 2020 at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed.

Anthocyanin is an essential pigment in all major horticultural crops especially in ornamental trees. Magnolia wufengensis (new species of Magnolia) with red color flower was recently found as a popular species for ornamental use, but anthocyanin synthesis and regulation in M. wufengensis are poorly understood.

Article Synopsis
  • A study assessed the effectiveness of a modified arthroscopic suture button fixation Latarjet procedure for treating recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations in 30 patients, averaging 27.3 years old, over a follow-up period of 36-60 months.* -
  • Patients experienced an average of 4.9 dislocations prior to surgery and displayed significant improvements in joint pain and function as measured by multiple scoring systems (VAS, UCLA, Rowe, ASES, Walch-Duplay) post-operation, with more improvement over time.* -
  • The surgical procedure had an average duration of 68.4 minutes, all incisions healed without complications, and imaging revealed successful coracoid graft healing and glenoid defect correction.*

Objective: To evaluate the early-term effectiveness of Latarjet procedure with double EndoButtons fixation for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation by coracoid osteotomy with preserving coracoacromial ligament.

Methods: Between January 2021 and June 2023, 19 patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations were treated by arthroscopic Latarjet procedure with double EndoButtons fixation, all of which underwent coracoid osteotomy with preserving the coracoacromial ligament. There were 11 males and 8 females, with an average age of 23.

Background: Traditional total hip arthroplasty (THA) using the direct anterior approach (DAA) requires a hip extension. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of patients undergoing THA with DAA using either the no hip extension (NHE) or the traditional hip extension (THE) strategy.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of demographics, clinical and radiological outcomes, and occurrence of complications was performed using data from 123 patients treated between January 2020 and November 2021.

Objective: To investigate whether the Runx2 gene can induce the differentiation of human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) to ligament fibroblasts and promote the tendon-bone healing in rabbits.

Methods: hAMSCs were isolated from the placentas voluntarily donated from healthy parturients and passaged, and then identified by flow cytometric identification. Adenoviral vectors carrying Runx2 gene (Ad-Runx2) and empty vector adenovirus (Ad-NC) were constructed and viral titer assay; then, the 3rd generation hAMSCs were transfected with Ad-Runx2 (Ad-Runx2 group) or Ad-NC (Ad-NC group).

Background: At present, the optimal treatment for posterior cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fracture (PCLTAF) combined with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures remains unclear. The present study aimed to assess the preliminary outcomes of treatment for PCLTAF with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures by open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).

Materials And Methods: The medical records of patients who sustained PCLTAF with concomitant ipsilateral lower limb fractures between March 2015 and February 2019 and underwent treatment at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of high tibial osteotomy (HTO) combined with arthroscopic surgery to treat medial compartment knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and secondary arthroscopic exploration to evaluate the outcome of cartilage and meniscus.

Methods: A clinical data of 57 patients with medial compartment KOA with varus deformity of lower extremities admitted between August 2014 and October 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 23 males and 34 females with an average age of 51.

Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics of ulceration over tophi in patients with gout and determine risk factors associated with ulceration.

Methods: Patients presenting with tophi or ulceration(s) over tophi were prospectively recruited and their clinical characteristics were recorded. Comparison of clinical characteristics and risk factors for ulceration were analyzed between groups.

Chemical forms, reactivities and transformation of iron fractions in marshy waters were investigated with cross-flow filtration technique to study the iron environmental behavior. Iron fractions were divided into four parts: acid-labile iron (pre-acidification of unfiltered marshy water samples, > 0.7 microm), high-molecular-weight iron (0.
