Objectives: To identify whether the Grip-Strength-Lean-Mass Index (GSLMI) can precisely diagnose sarcopenia and predict prognosis for cancer patients in clinical settings.

Design: A nationwide multicenter cohort study.

Setting And Participants: 8,831 inpatients aged 18 years and older, histologically diagnosed with cancer and receiving anti-cancer therapy.

The Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) domain protein FAM92A1 is a multifunctional protein engaged in regulating mitochondrial ultrastructure and ciliogenesis, but its physiological role in the brain remains unclear. Here, we show that FAM92A1 is expressed in neurons starting from embryonic development. FAM92A1 knockout in mice results in altered brain morphology and age-associated cognitive deficits, potentially due to neuronal degeneration and disrupted synaptic plasticity.

Mitochondrial fission is a tightly regulated process involving multiple proteins and cell signaling. Despite extensive studies on mitochondrial fission factors, our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms remains limited. This study shows the critical role of a mitochondrial GTPase, GTPBP8, in orchestrating mitochondrial fission in mammalian cells.

Background & Aims: The present study aimed to compare the ability of the GLIM criteria, PG-SGA and mPG-SGA to diagnose malnutrition and predict survival among Chinese lung cancer (LC) patients.

Methods: This was a secondary analysis of a multicenter, prospective, nationwide cohort study, 6697 LC inpatients were enrolled between July 2013 and June 2020. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), area under the curve (AUC), and quadratic weighted Kappa coefficients were calculated to compare the ability to diagnose malnutrition.

Mitochondria are essential organelles for neuronal function and cell survival. Besides the well-known bioenergetics, additional mitochondrial roles in calcium signaling, lipid biogenesis, regulation of reactive oxygen species, and apoptosis are pivotal in diverse cellular processes. The mitochondrial proteome encompasses about 1,500 proteins encoded by both the nuclear DNA and the maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA.

Aarskog-Scott syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by short stature, abnormal facial features, and digital and genital deformities. FGD1 gene variation is the known cause of this disorder. This paper described a Chinese family study of Aarskog-Scott syndrome in which the main patients were two brothers.

Background: Internet addiction of adolescents has aroused social concern recently. The present study aims to identify predicting factors of internet addiction on adolescents.

Methods: The demographic characteristics and psychological characteristics of 50, 855 middle school students were investigated through Internet Gaming Disorder Scale- Short Form(IGDS9-SF), Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale (SABAS), Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-students (SDQS), 16-Item Version of the Prodromal Questionnaire (PQ-16), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7), Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale (MPVS), Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS), and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC10) were used to analyze factors associated with internet addiction by Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple hierarchical regression.

Retinoblastoma is a familial inherited embryonic neuroretinal malignancy with a low survival rate and poor prognosis. Our study aimed to evaluate the potential interaction between microRNA miR-657 and the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARA) in retinoblastoma. Expression of miR-657 and PPARA was analyzed in retinoblastoma tissues and cells using RT-qPCR.

The present study evaluated whether fat mass assessment using the triceps skinfold (TSF) thickness provides additional prognostic value to the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) framework in patients with lung cancer (LC). We performed an observational cohort study including 2672 LC patients in China. Comprehensive demographic, disease and nutritional characteristics were collected.

There are several approaches that can be used for the pre-treatment identification of malnutrition in oncology populations including the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), the 2015 consensus statement by the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN 2015) and the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM). This study aimed to evaluate whether malnutrition, as defined by these three methods, can be used to predict complications in esophageal cancer (EC) patients after esophagectomy. We performed a single center, observational cohort study that included 360 EC patients undergoing esophagectomy from December 2014 to November 2019 at Daping Hospital in China.

Background: The newly proposed Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) framework is promising to gain global acceptance for diagnosing malnutrition. However, the role of machine learning in facilitating its application in clinical practice remains largely unknown.

Methods: We performed a multicenter, observational cohort study including 3998 patients with cancer.

Background: The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) has the potential to gain global acceptance for diagnosing malnutrition. Of which, calf circumference (CC) was proposed as an alternative to evaluate the reduced muscle mass (RMM). The present study aimed to evaluate whether including the hand grip strength (HGS) was helpful for diagnosing malnutrition under the GLIM framework.

Background: Malnutrition is prevalent in lung cancer (LC) patients, yet there are no globally accepted criteria for diagnosing malnutrition. Recently, the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria were proposed. However, the role of these criteria in prospective LC cohorts remains unclear.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of mtDNA in breast cancer.

Methods: We carried out an investigation into the mtDNA major control region or D-loop region and an essential and the largest mtDNA protein-coding gene, NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (ND5), together with a mitochondrial haplogroup analysis in 64 patients with breast cancer (BC) and 54 patients with benign breast disease (BBD) as controls.

Results: Mutations in D-loop region were found in 10/64 or 15.

Mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) have been found to be one of the most important causes of sensorineural hearing loss. We report here a clinical, genetic, molecular and biochemical characterization of a Han Chinese pedigree with maternally transmitted nonsyndromic hearing impairment. Seven of nine matrilineal relatives exhibited a variable severity and age-at-onset (8 years old) of hearing loss.

Silicon dioxide nano-particles, diameter 50 nm, containing morin (morin-SiO2) have been synthesized by the sol-gel method. They emit strong and stable room-temperature phosphorescence (SS-RTP) on filter paper as substrate, and bismuth can quench the intensity of the SS-RTP. On this basis a new morin-SiO2 solid-substrate room-temperature phosphorescence-quenching method has been established for determination of traces of bismuth.
