Background/aims: The effects of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) on angiogenesis and cardiac function improvement in rats with myocardial infarction (MI) is unknown and our current study was to evaluate whether HIF-1α would be beneficial for angiogenesis and cardiac function improvement in MI rats.

Methods: A mutant of adenovirus HIF-1α (Ad-HIF-1α-Trip) was constructed by three sites mutation (Pro402, Pro564 and Asn803) in HIF-1α. The rat MI model was produced by permanent ligation of left anterior descending artery and 1×109 PFU adenovirus (Ad) vector particles of Ad-Null, Ad- HIF-1a-564/402, Ad- HIF-1a-Trip, 250ng vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in 0.

Objective: To study the effects of temperature on different facial areas by suspended moxibustion at two points, Zusanli (ST 36) and Hegu (LI 4), and probe the phenomena underlying self-regulation in the human body after thermal stimulation.

Methods: Thirty healthy volunteers accepted moxibustion over Zusanli (ST 36) and Hegu (LI 4), and the order of moxibustion points was randomly determined. Moxibustion method: suspension of moxibustion over Zusanli (ST 36) and Hegu (LI 4) on both sides was performed using an ignited moxa stick stuck in a support for 20 min.

Background: It is well known that both heat shock protein (HSP) and Toll-like receptor (TLR)3 agonist polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) are capable of promoting the antigen-specific immune responses. In the current study, we assessed whether the anti-tumor effects of the HPV16E7(49-57)-based vaccine can be elevated by combined applications of poly(I:C) and oxygen-regulated protein 150 (ORP150) in a mouse cervical cancer model.

Methods: Recombinant mouse ORP150 and HPV E7(49-57) peptide were combined to passively form the ORP150-E7(49-57) complex under heat shock conditions.

Subjects with Bell's palsy and healthy individuals were treated with moxibustion thermal stimulation on the Hegu (LI4) acupoint; an infrared thermal imaging system was used to observe facial-temperature changes. Bell's palsy patients developed low or high temperatures at the affected side, with poor symmetry. Healthy people showed high temperatures on the forehead, medial angle of the eye, nasal ala and around the lips, but low temperatures on bilateral cheeks, thus forming a "T-type hot area" in the face, with good temperature symmetry.

Objective: To compare the immediate effect of moxibustion on Yanglingquan (GB 34) on body surface thermograph between the patients with myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and healthy people.

Methods: Thirty-five cases of MPS were selected in observation group and 15 cases of healthy people were in control group. ATIR-M301 medical infrared imaging device was used to observe the changes in body surface thermograph before and 15 min after moxibustion on Yanglingquan (GB 34) The qualitative analysis of picture pattern and the quantitative analysis of temperature were integrated to compare the differences between two groups.
