Immunotherapy combined with antiangiogenic targeted therapy has improved the treatment of certain solid tumors, but effective regimens remain elusive for refractory recurrent/metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (RM-NPC). We conducted a phase 2 trial to evaluate the safety and activity of camrelizumab plus apatinib in platinum-resistant (cohort 1, NCT04547088) and PD-1 inhibitor resistant NPC (cohort 2, NCT04548271). Here we report on the primary outcome of objective response rate (ORR) and secondary endpoints of safety, duration of response, disease control rate, progression-free survival, and overall survival.

Article Synopsis
  • Macrophages play a crucial role in the immune response within the tumor microenvironment, but their specific impact on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis remains unclear.
  • A study analyzed samples from 681 NSCLC patients using advanced staining techniques to categorize macrophages and their relationship with other immune markers, utilizing machine learning to develop a risk score for predicting disease-free survival.
  • Results showed that higher levels of macrophages, particularly M1 types, were linked to shorter disease-free survival; a newly created immune-related risk score (IRRS) demonstrated good predictive accuracy for cancer recurrence compared to traditional single markers.

Background: Significantly rising plasma circulating C-reaction protein (CRP) concentrations are pervasive in lung cancer (LC) development, demonstrating a bidirectional relation. However, it remains uncertain whether the causation between them exists, and the degree to which the effect varies across different ethnic ancestries remains unknown. Therefore, we attempted to investigate the causal relationship between these two phenotypes.

Background: mutation is associated with a high risk of breast cancer, which may preclude breast cancer patients with mutation from breast-conserving therapy (BCT) [breast-conserving surgery (BCS), followed by radiotherapy, BCT]. It is debatable whether BCT could be a rational choice for Chinese breast cancer patients with a / mutation.

Methods: The study comprised a cohort of women with invasive breast cancer either receiving BCT or mastectomy following the criteria for the germline mutation test.

Circulating plasma Epstein-Barr virus DNA (EBV DNA) is related to tumor recurrence and metastasis and has potential as a dynamic, sensitive, and specific marker in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We investigated the clinical significance of assessing plasma EBV DNA load at various time points during treatment. Patients with NPC (n = 949) for whom plasma EBV DNA load was measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) before treatment (pre-EBV) and at midtreatment (mid-EBV), end of treatment (end-EBV), and 3 months after completing treatment (3 m-EBV) were retrospectively assessed.

The NOTCH1 signaling pathway is crucial for T-cell development, and NOTCH1 and/or FBXW7 mutations are frequently detected in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the prognostic impact of mutations in the NOTCH1 pathway. After retrieving relevant articles from PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library, we investigated overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) with hazard ratios (HRs) using fixed-effects or random-effects models and conducted subgroup analyses based on population and mutation status.
