Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), which are widely present in animals and plants, have a broad distribution, strong broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, low likelihood of developing drug resistance, high thermal stability and antiviral properties. The present study investigated the effects of adding AMPs from Hermetia illucens larvae on the growth performance, muscle composition, antioxidant capacity, immune response, gene expression, antibacterial ability and intestinal microbiota of Cherax quadricarinatus (red claw crayfish). Five experimental diets were prepared by adding 50 (M1), 100 (M2), 150 (M3) and 200 (M4) mg/kg of crude AMP extract from H.

Article Synopsis
  • Continuous cropping (growing the same plant in the same place repeatedly) can harm soil quality over time.
  • This study looked at how the soil's chemical properties and the types of dissolved organic matter (DOM) change as the years of continuous tobacco cropping increase.
  • After 7 years of continuous cropping, certain compounds in the soil became more common while some, like tannins, decreased, showing a shift in the soil's health and microorganisms.

Astaxanthin is one of the important immunopotentators in aquaculture. However, little is known about the physiological changes and stress resistance effects of astaxanthin in marine gastropods. In this study, the effects of different astaxanthin concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 mg/kg) on the growth, muscle composition, immune function, and resistance to ammonia stress in Babylonia areolata were investigated after three months of rearing.

4-Nonylphenol (4-NP) is one of the common endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in estuaries and coastal zones, which can exert detrimental effects on the physiological function of aquatic organisms. However, the molecular response triggered by 4-NP remains largely unknown in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). In this study, transcriptomic analysis was performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of 4-NP toxicity in the hepatopancreas of L.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are related to the pathogenesis and progression of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The aim of this study was to investigate the role and mechanism of hsa_circ_0001925 in TNBC progression.

Methods: Hsa_circ_0001925, microRNA (miR)-1299 and Yin Yang 1 (YY1) levels were examined in TNBC via reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot.

Red claw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) is an important freshwater shrimp species worldwide with enormous economic value. Waterless transportation is an inherent feature of red claw crayfish transportation. However, the high mortality of red claw crayfish is a severe problem in the aquaculture of crayfish after waterless transportation.

To investigate the correlation of fibronectin 1 (FN1) expression with prognosis and tumor-infiltrating immune cells in breast cancer (BRCA). FN1 mRNA and protein expressions were analyzed through Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), Gene Set Cancer Analysis (GSCA), Human Protein Atlas (HPA) databases, and immunohistochemical analysis. The clinicopathological characteristics and genetic factors affecting the FN1 mRNA expression were assessed by various public databases.

Glutaredoxin (Grx) is a class molecule oxidoreductase, which can regulate the redox state of proteins and plays a key role in antioxidant defense. However, the informations of Grx cDNA sequences and their functions are lack in decapod crustacea. In the present study, the cDNA of LvGrx 2 was cloned from the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei.

This study was aimed at investigating the cellular responses of Penaeus monodon haemocytes to poly I:C stimulation using flow cytometric assay. Total haemocyte count (THC), percentages of different haemocyte subpopulations [hyaline cells (HC), semigranular cells (SGC) and granular cells (GC)], non-specific esterase activity (EA), total reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) production, nitric oxide (NO) production, apoptotic haemocyte ratio and plasmic phenoloxidase (PO) activity were determined in poly I:C-injected shrimp. Results showed that poly I:C at a low dose (5 μg shrimp) caused obvious increases in THC, GC proportion, ROS/RNS production and NO production, but had no significant effect on EA, apoptosis and PO activity.

Oxidative burst, release of reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) contributed to microorganisms killing, is a vital immune response of crustacean haemocyte. Three morphologic haemocyte types (hyaline cells, HC; semigranular cells, SGC; granular cells, GC) have been defined in crustaceans, and found to play different roles in immune defense. However, oxidative burst activities of different haemocyte subpopulations in crustaceans are currently not documented.

Different haemocyte types have been reported to play diverse roles in immune defense of shrimp. To investigate the roles of the three haemocyte types [hyaline cells (HC), semigranular cells (SGC) and granular cells (GC)] of shrimp in immune responses against lipopolysaccharide (LPS), percentage, non-specific esterase activity (EA), reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and nitric oxide (NO) production of the three haemocyte subpopulations were analyzed in LPS-injected Penaeus monodon using flow cytometry. Results showed that percentage of HC increased after 3 h injection, and returned to the original level after 48 h.

Four low-dimensional ytterbium(iii)-organic compounds through hydrothermal reactions of quinoline-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (2,3-H2qldc) and oxalic acid (H2ox) with Yb2O3, namely, [Yb(2,3-qldc)(ox)1/2(H2O)3·(H2O)4]n (1), [Yb(2,3-qldc)(ox)1/2(H2O)2·(H2O)2]n (2), [Yb(2,3-Hqldc)(ox)(H2O)2·(H2O)]n (3) and [Yb(2,3-Hqldc)(ox)(H2O)·(H2O)2]n (4), were first synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis (EA), infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. When the reactant ratio of 2,3-H2qldc : H2ox : Yb2O3 is 2 : 1 : 1, 1-D chain-like complex 1 with three coordinated water molecules around the Yb(iii) ion was obtained in mixed solvents of H2O and CH3OH (v : v = 10 : 1) at 70 °C, and with the increase of temperature to 100 °C, the same reactants gave 2-D 6(3) topological layer-like complex 2 with two coordinated water molecules in the coordination sphere of the Yb(iii) ion. However, when the reactant ratio was changed to 1 : 1 : 1, two 2-D 6(3) topological layer-like complexes 3 (70 °C) and 4 (100 °C) were obtained at different temperatures, in which the coordination water molecules in 3 and 4 are two and one, respectively.
