Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the impact of functional chewing training (FuCT) on chewing ability, tongue thrust severity, and drooling in children with cerebral palsy.
  • A total of 48 children with oral motor dysfunction were randomly assigned to either FuCT or oral motor training groups for 12 weeks, with evaluations performed post-training.
  • Results showed that the FuCT group experienced significant improvements in masticatory function, tongue thrust severity, and drooling compared to the oral motor training group, proving FuCT to be beneficial for these outcomes.

Objective: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) serves as a biomarker for diagnosing several types of diseases in adults; nonetheless, its use is restricted in children because of changes in ALP activity during different physiological phases. The present study aimed to investigate ALP activity and its dynamics in children of different ages to establish the reference values for ALP activity in children.

Methods: Total 167,625 samples of children aged 0-18 years were enrolled in this study.

The hypersensitive response (HR) is one of the most efficient forms of plant defense against biotrophic pathogens and results in localized cell death and the formation of necrotic lesions. In this study, a novel putative hypersensitive induced reaction (HIR) gene from wheat leaves infected by incompatible stripe rust pathogen CY23, designated as Ta-hir1, was identified by using rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). Ta-hir1 encodes 284 amino acids, with a predicted molecular mass of 31.
