Littoral cell angioma of the spleen: sonographic-pathologic comparison.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sonographic and pathologic features of littoral cell angioma of the spleen in 7 patients.

Methods: The sonographic appearance in 7 cases of littoral cell angioma confirmed by surgical pathologic examination was retrospectively reviewed. All underwent color Doppler imaging.

Serous cystic neoplasms of the pancreas: a clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis.

Objective: To clarify whether the various subtypes of serous cystic neoplasms (SCNs) of the pancreas can be distinguished from each other by marker profiles.

Methods: The immunoprofiles of 13 SCNs were defined by using antibodies against cytoskeletal, neuroendocrine, hormone receptor, and mucin markers. In addition, we examined the expression of calrentinin and alpha-inhibin.

Detection of herpes simplex virus type 1 in rheumatic valvular tissue.

Background: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is the most important sequela of rheumatic fever (RF): evidence that streptococcal infection is aetiological is prominent, but sometimes contradictory. Acute HSV-1 infection in mouse leads to carditis and valvulitis whereas recurrent infection results in inflammatory granulomatous lesions that resemble Aschoff bodies. Cells containing HSV-1 inclusions or virus infected giant cells appear similar to Anitschkow cells or Aschoff cells respectively.
