Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a global health concern, and it is particularly harmful to middle-aged and elderly individuals. Life Element Eight (LE8), a measure to improve cardiovascular health, may offer benefits for MetS. Herein, we examined the relationship between LE8 and MetS among middle-aged and elderly individuals, and elucidated the role of biological aging and inflammation in this process.

Background: Previous studies have shown that the addition of platinum to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) improved outcomes for patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, no studies have assessed the efficacy and safety of the combination of taxane and lobaplatin. In this study, we conducted a randomized controlled phase II clinical study to compare the efficacy and safety of taxane combined with lobaplatin or anthracycline.

The direct conversion of methane (CH), a main greenhouse gas, to value-added chemicals has attracted increasing attention in order to alleviate the current energy crisis and environmental concern. In this work, we demonstrate that zeolite modified by a low amount of GaO (GS-1) can serve as a highly active and stable catalyst for direct conversion to hydrogen (H) and solid carbon.

To explore the feasibility and safety of remote programming technology based on 5G cloud technology support platform in postoperative follow-up of cardiovascular implantable electronic devices(CIED). This study was a multicenter cross-sectional study. CIED patients from 12 hospitals lacking full-time follow-up specialists in Sichuan Province were enrolled from June 2021 to October 2021.

Comparative analysis of the efficacy and safety of different methods for injecting polidocanol in the treatment of venous malformations.

Objective: To compare and analyze the efficacy and safety of different methods for injecting polidocanol in the treatment of venous malformations.

Methods: The medical records of patients with venous malformations in our hospital from April 2021 to April 2023 were analyzed retrospectively, and they were divided into control group ( = 38) and observation group ( = 20) according to different treatment methods. Control group was injected with polidocanol under ultrasound guidance, while observation group was injected with polidocanol under digital subtraction angiography (DSA) monitoring.

Comparison of anaesthesia strategies on postoperative nausea and vomiting in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: a randomised controlled trial.

Background: Intra-operative anaesthesia management should be optimised to reduce the occurrence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in high-risk patients; however, a single intervention may not effectively reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting in such patients. This study assessed the effect of an optimised anaesthetic protocol versus a conventional one on postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Methods: A single-centre randomised trial was conducted at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital from June 2021 to December 2022.

Thermogenic beige adipocytes are recognized as potential therapeutic targets for combating metabolic diseases. However, the metabolic advantages that they offer are compromised with aging. Here we show that treating mice with estrogen (E2), a hormone that decreases with age, can counteract the age-related decline in beige adipogenesis when exposed to cold temperature while concurrently enhancing energy expenditure and improving glucose tolerance in mice.

Spatial whole exome sequencing reveals the genetic features of highly-aggressive components in lung adenocarcinoma.

In invasive lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), patients with micropapillary (MIP) or solid (SOL) components had a significantly poorer prognosis than those with only lepidic (LEP), acinar (ACI) or papillary (PAP) components. It is interesting to explore the genetic features of different histologic subtypes, especially the highly aggressive components. Based on a cohort of 5,933 patients, this study observed that in different tumor size groups, LUAD with MIP/SOL components showed a different prevalence, and patients with ALK alteration or TP53 mutations had a higher probability of developing MIP/SOL components.

In this study, a precise and stable heterostructure, comprised of a coupling of CoFe and FeC, was constructed through an interface engineering-induced strategy. The coordination polymerization of the resin with the bimetallic components was meticulously regulated to control the interfacial characteristics of the heterostructure.

The scorpion venom heat-resistant peptide (SVHRP) was purified from Buthus martensii Karsch scorpion venom, and subsequent analysis of the amino acid sequence facilitated the synthesis of a peptide known as scorpion venom heat-resistant synthesis peptide (SVHRSP) using a technique for peptide synthesis. Previous studies have demonstrated that the SVHRSP can inhibit neuroinflammation and provide neuroprotection.

Perilla juice and ginger juice reduced warmed-over flavor (WOF) in surimi gels: Due to the inhibition of the formation of the WOF compounds and the masking of the WOF.

The effects and reasons of perilla juice (PJ) and ginger juice (GJ) on the reduction of "warmed-over flavor" (WOF) in surimi gels were revealed by detecting odor profiles and protein and lipid oxidation degrees of surimi gels, concentrations and odor activity values (OAVs) of WOF compounds. Adding PJ and GJ to surimi gels significantly reduced the WOF and improved the fish fragrance odor, but sodium ascorbate (SA) only weakened the WOF. The (E,E)-2,4-heptadienal's OAVs in the PJ and GJ groups were decreased by >50% compared with the control check (CK) and SA groups.

Background: The renal proximal tubule (RPT) plays a pivotal role in regulating sodium reabsorption and thus blood pressure (BP). Transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) has been reported to protect against renal injury by modulating mitochondrial function. We hypothesize that the activation of TRPA1 by its agonist cinnamaldehyde may mitigate high-salt intake-induced hypertension by inhibiting urinary sodium reabsorption through restoration of renal tubular epithelial mitochondrial function.

3D aerogels incorporating functionalized reduced graphene oxide (SUL/rGO) were prepared as a hydrothermal method utilizing graphene oxide (GO) and a sulfonyldibenzene derivative (SUL) as raw materials. The aromatic compound SUL, which contains hydroxyl and sulfonyl groups, was bonded to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) through π-π connections. The obtained composite material exhibited porosity within its structure with improved hydrophilicity, along with excellent electrochemical characteristics.
