Daytime radiative cooling dissipates heat from surfaces by reflecting sunlight and emitting infrared radiation to outer space, featuring zero-energy consumption. Wood-based coolers have received more attention due to their high infrared emissivity, sustainability, and low cost. However, they often degrade under ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure, resulting in a poor cooling efficiency.

Hypoxia-related tumor radioresistance markedly impairs the efficacy of radiotherapy. Herein, a targeted radiosensitization strategy is introduced, leveraging the upregulation of gasdermin C (GSDMC) in hypoxic tumor cells, aiming to induce pyroptosis through the application of a cobalt-containing polyoxometalate-based radiosensitizer. This novel radiosensitizer is designed for the precisely controlled release of cobalt ions upon X-ray irradiation, thereby activating caspase-8 and prompting the cleavage of GSDMC.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disorder that damages the central nervous system, and new research shows that extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-EVs) might have healing effects due to specific microRNAs, particularly miR-181a-5p.
  • In studies using an animal model of MS (EAE), MSC-EVs containing miR-181a-5p were found to improve symptoms and reduce inflammation in the central nervous system by affecting microglial cells.
  • The research concluded that these MSC-EVs work by inhibiting certain inflammatory pathways (specifically through the USP15-mediated RelA/NEK7 axis), suggesting a promising new treatment strategy for MS.

Article Synopsis
  • Rice bran was treated with steam explosion (SE) at various pressures to analyze the effects on the structure and properties of insoluble dietary fiber (IDF).
  • Results showed that higher steam pressure created a more porous structure and reduced crystallinity in IDF, while also enhancing thermal stability with finer pulverization.
  • Although certain functional abilities like water-holding and oil-holding capacity decreased with increased steam pressure, the study suggests improved overall characteristics of IDF from rice bran after SE treatment.

The high-fat and high-fructose diet (HFFD) is a common diet in westernized societies, which worsens disturbances in gut microbiota and bile acid (BA) metabolism. Herein, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of the water extract of fruits (LBE) on gut microbiota and BA metabolism in mice with HFFD-induced neuroinflammation. The results showed that supplementation of LBE for 14 weeks remarkably ameliorated weight gain and insulin resistance and suppressed microglial activation and neural neuroinflammation induced by HFFD.
