Delivery of exogenous nucleic acids (NAs) for gene regulation in bacteria, bypassing the barrier of the cell wall, is essential for advancing fundamental microbiology and genetic engineering, and the treatment of bacterial diseases. However, current methods that rely on electrical or chemical interventions are limited by their complexity, specialized expertise, and laboratory-specific instrumentation. This study explores the capability of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) as carriers for delivering small-interfering RNA and antisense oligonucleotides into bacteria for targeted gene regulation while shielding them from degradation during transport.

We investigated the association between cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and ipsilateral leptomeningeal collateral (LMC) status in patients with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (sICAS). In 108 patients with 50-99% symptomatic intracranial internal carotid artery or M1 middle cerebral artery stenosis, 4 CSVD imaging markers (lacunes, cerebral microbleeds, enlarged perivascular spaces [EPVSs], and white matter hyperintensities [WMHs]) were assessed in MRI. Score of 0 or 1 was assigned to each marker and added up as a summary CSVD score (ranging 0-4) to reflect an overall CSVD burden.

Article Synopsis
  • Cerebral venous disruption may hinder glymphatic drainage in small vessel disease, affecting brain health.
  • A study examined 31 patients using advanced MR imaging to assess the relationships between venous integrity, perivascular diffusivity (DTI-ALPS index), and neuroimaging features of cerebral small vessel disease.
  • Results indicated that lower DTI-ALPS scores correspond with impaired venous function, leading to increased white matter hyperintensity and perivascular space volume, suggesting a mediating role of DTI-ALPS in these associations.

Importance: The China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke II (CATIS-2) suggests that early antihypertensive treatment did not reduce the risk of dependency or death in acute ischemic stroke (AIS), compared with delayed treatment. Single subcortical infarction (SSI) is an important stroke subtype, and the association of antihypertensive timing with clinical outcomes is unclear.

Objective: To investigate the association of early vs delayed antihypertensive treatment with clinical outcomes in patients with SSI, stratified by the presence of parent artery disease (PAD) stenosis.

Introduction: Symtomatic hemorrhagic transformation(sHT) was defined as any intracerebral hemorrhage that combined with clinical deterioration. While recent studies showed low rates of sHT in large core ischemic strokes treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), the specific impact of core size on overall hemorrhagic transformation (HT) remains unclear. We aim to investigate the relationship between ischemic core size and development of HT post thrombectomy.
