Neurotrophic keratopathy is a degenerative disease caused by corneal nerve damage, leading to corneal ulceration. Recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) was approved for neurotrophic keratitis therapy; however, the excipients of the eye drops are not optimized for its controlled release. To this aim, we introduce the hypotonic hydrogel PF127 as an excipient for rhNGF in eye drops.

In situ gelling eye drops of tacrolimus (FK506 Gel) were developed to address the formulation challenge of tacrolimus for anterior ocular inflammatory diseases. Both in silico and in vitro investigations were conducted to screen a suitable cyclodextrin species to increase the drug solubility. Guanosine was employed as the gelator and combined with inclusion complexes of tacrolimus in the presence of borate anions to obtain FK506 Gel, which gelated when came into contact with cations in tear fluid and led to the formation of a nanofibrous hydrogel.

Trace detection of chiral molecules, which is of great significance in chemical, biological, medical and pharmaceutical sciences, requires microscopic techniques at the single-particle or single-molecule level. Although ensemble experiments show that the circular dichroism of chiral molecules can be amplified by plasmonic nanocrystals, trace detection of small chiral molecules remains challenging due to weak signals that are far below the detection limit. Herein, we demonstrate trace detection of chiral J-aggregated molecules adsorbed on individual Au nanorods (NRs) using single-particle circular differential scattering (CDS) spectroscopy.
