Background: Accurately identifying effective biomarkers and translating them into clinical practice have significant implications for improving clinical outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, our objective is to explore appropriate methods to improve the accuracy of biomarker identification and investigate their clinical value.

Methods: Concentrating on the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification regulators, we utilized dozens of multi-omics HCC datasets to analyze the expression patterns and genetic features of m6A regulators.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on the importance of identifying and quantifying factors contributing to uncertainty in greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategies in developing regions.
  • It introduces a new method that combines Quasi-Monte Carlo simulation with Sobol variance decomposition, demonstrating significant uncertainty in GHG emissions projections for Anhui Province, China, with a 6.2% emission uncertainty by 2030 and 68.6% by 2060.
  • The research highlights that economic factors, particularly per capita GDP, and energy aspects, like renewable energy and UHV electricity import, play crucial roles in this uncertainty, urging policymakers to consider uncertainty analysis in their GHG reduction planning.

Article Synopsis
  • - Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common neuro-sensory disorder affecting quality of life, with a global prevalence among adults aged 20-79 years estimated at 7.12%, translating to approximately 356 million individuals affected in 2019.
  • - The study analyzed 52 publications from 23 countries, noting that prevalence rates were similar in high and low/middle socio-demographic regions, with Europe having the highest prevalence rate of 7.60% and Africa the lowest at 6.48%.
  • - Factors linked to a higher likelihood of developing RLS included older age, smoking, depression, and diabetes, indicating the need for awareness and potential intervention strategies targeting these risk factors.

COVID-19 has posed unprecedented challenges to the mental health of college students worldwide. We examined the trends in students' stress levels during and after China's first wave of COVID-19 outbreaks by analyzing their demographics, behavior, mental health status, career confidence, and Chinese Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS) scores. Our findings indicate an increase in students' stress levels since the COVID-19 onset, with more students experiencing higher stress levels after the first outbreak than during it (OR = 2.

Developing large-scale hydrogels with high tensile strength and robust mechanical properties is an intricate challenge of great industrial significance. In this study, we demonstrate an efficient method for producing nanocomposite hydrogels with extraordinary mechanical properties. Our approach involves a two-step process: an initial stage of pre-cross-linking boron nitride (BN)-enriched pre-gel sodium alginate, followed by cross-linking with metal ions.

Background: DNMT3L is a crucial DNA methylation regulatory factor, yet its function and mechanism in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain poorly understood. Bioinformatics-based big data analysis has increasingly gained significance in cancer research. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the role of DNMT3L in HCC by integrating big data analysis with experimental validation.

China faces a dual challenge of improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Stringent clean air actions gradually narrow the end-of-pipe (EOP) pollution control potential. Meanwhile, pursuing carbon peaking will reduce air pollution and health risks.

Phosphate-solubilizing fungi (PSF) efficiently dissolve insoluble phosphates through the production of organic acids. This study investigates the mechanisms of organic acid secretion by PSF, specifically Penicillium chrysogenum, under tricalcium phosphate (Ca(PO), Ca-P) and ferric phosphate (FePO, Fe-P) conditions. Penicillium chrysogenum exhibited higher phosphorus (P) release efficiency from Ca-P (693.

Background: Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) is widely recognised as a major public health concern in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite various interventions implemented in many countries, a lack of reliable data is hindering progress. We aimed to consolidate available data and quantify estimates of the prevalence of VAD among children ≤18 years in LMICs.

Objective: This study investigated factors influencing the knowledge, attitudes, practice profiles, and vaccination intentions among Chinese nursing students and nursing interns toward the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination.

Materials And Methods: The multicenter cross-sectional study was based on a self-reported questionnaire collecting information among nursing students and nursing interns from three major geographic regions of China, and the sample was selected by consecutive sampling. The questionnaire was developed by knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) theory.

Cellulose, a kind of polymer containing abundant functional groups, has widespread use in the adsorptive removal of environmental pollutants. An efficient and environmental friendly polypyrrole (PPy) coating approach is employed to modify the agricultural by-product straw derived cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) into excellent property adsorbents for removing the heavy metal ion of Hg(II). The FT-IR and SEM-EDS results demonstrated that PPy is formed on the surface of CNC.

Phosphorus is one of the important metabolic elements for living organisms, but excess phosphorus in water can lead to eutrophication. At present, the removal of phosphorus in water bodies mainly focuses on inorganic phosphorus, while there is still a lack of research on the removal of organic phosphorus (OP). Therefore, the degradation of OP and synchronous recovery of the produced inorganic phosphorus has important significance for the reuse of OP resources and the prevention of water eutrophication.

Lead (Pb) is one of the most common heavy metal pollutants in the environment, which can indirectly or directly threaten human health. Lead immobilization by apatite can reduce the effectiveness of Pb cations the formation of pyromorphite (Pyro). However, the formation of Pyro is always depending on the release of phosphorus (P) from apatite.

Wildfire emissions are a key contributor of carbonaceous aerosols and trace gases to the atmosphere. Induced by buoyant lifting, smoke plumes can be injected into the free troposphere and lower stratosphere, which by consequence significantly affects the magnitude and distance of their influences on air quality and radiation budget. However, the vertical allocation of emissions when smoke escapes the planetary boundary layer (PBL) and the mechanism modulating it remain unclear.

Background: Hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP) is suggested to be a risk factor for elevated blood pressure (BP) in offspring. However, the empirical evidence was mixed. Thus, this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize current evidence assessing the association between HIP and BP in offspring.

Aerosol mass extinction efficiency (MEE) is a key aerosol property used to connect aerosol optical properties with aerosol mass concentrations. Using measurements of smoke obtained during the Fire Influence on Regional to Global Environments and Air Quality (FIREX-AQ) campaign we find that mid-visible smoke MEE can change by a factor of 2-3 between fresh smoke (<2 hr old) and one-day-old smoke. While increases in aerosol size partially explain this trend, changes in the real part of the aerosol refractive index (real(n)) are necessary to provide closure assuming Mie theory.

  • China is ranked 53 out of 81 in the Quality of Death Index for 2021, with increasing demand for hospice care but slow progress in acceptance.
  • A large survey of 11,031 valid responses revealed that individuals with higher education, more properties, and better medical insurance types are more willing to accept hospice care, while males and those with certain psychological issues showed lower willingness.
  • Various factors such as psychological conditions and higher scores on health and social support scales also influenced hospice care acceptance across different age and gender demographics.
