The Chinese soft-shelled turtle () is an economically important species in aquaculture, and its growth pattern is characterized by significant sexual dimorphism. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of this phenomenon have mostly been investigated in the gonadal tissues of , and there are no articles on sex differentiation from the brain of . Here, we analyzed transcriptomes of the brains of adult male and female using high-throughput Illumina sequencing technology, establishing a set of differential genes and differential transcription factors.

  • Cancer is a major health issue worldwide, and effectively managing cancer pain and anesthesia is crucial for treatment.
  • This study analyzed 16 common analgesics and anesthetics, finding that butorphanol tartrate injection notably reduced the growth of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells and enhanced the effectiveness of gefitinib in resistant cell lines.
  • Benzethonium chloride, the key component in butorphanol, may influence cancer cell processes by affecting the P53 signaling pathway, suggesting its potential in improving NSCLC therapies.

The mud carp (Cirrhinus molitorella) is an important economic farmed fish, mainly distributed in South China and Southeast Asia due to its strong adaptability and high yield. Despite its economic importance, the paucity of genomic information has constrained detailed genetic research and breeding efforts. In this study, we utilized PacBio HiFi long-read sequencing and Hi-C technologies to generate a meticulously assembled chromosome-level genome of the mud carp.

The carbonation reaction is essential in the global carbon cycle and in the carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. In oceans (pH 8.1) or in synthetic materials such as cement or geopolymers (pH over 12), the basic pH conditions affect the reaction rate of carbonation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The Northern snakehead is an important aquaculture species in China, and research shows distinct growth differences based on sex, making mono-sex breeding highly beneficial for farming.
  • - Through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and transcriptome analysis, researchers identified 270 sexually dimorphic genetic markers and created two specific markers that can determine genetic sex in these fish.
  • - A key sex-determination region was found on chromosome 3, along with three candidate genes linked to sex determination, suggesting the existence of a male heterogametic XX/XY system in Northern snakeheads.

Blockade of programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) is considered a promising strategy for controlling pathogen infection by enhancing host immune cell function. Eosinophils, which play a crucial role in type 2 immune responses, are essential components of the host defense against helminth infection. Here, we investigate the role of PD-1 in eosinophilia during Trichinella spiralis infection in mice.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary malignant tumor of the liver. As the global obesity rate rises, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as the most rapidly increasing cause of HCC. Consequently, the regulation of lipid metabolism has become a crucial target for the prevention and treatment of HCC.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide, with high incidence and low survival rates. Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors play an important role in the progression of LUAD. In this study, a screening of 17 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor allosteric agents revealed that spinosad effectively suppressed the proliferation of LUAD cells.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that significantly impacts quality of life by disrupting CD4 T cell immune homeostasis. The identification of a low-side-effect drug for RA treatment is urgently needed. Our previous study suggests that paramyosin (-Pmy) has immunomodulatory effects, but its potential effect on CD4 T cell response in RA remains unclear.

Background: Hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a T helper 17 cell response-driven disease, and PD-1 (programmed cell death 1)/PD-L1 (programmed cell death-ligand 1) inhibitor-associated pulmonary hypertension has been reported recently. This study is designed to explore whether the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway participates in HPH via regulating endothelial dysfunction and T helper 17 cell response.

Methods: Lung tissue samples were obtained from eligible patients.

Helminths produce calreticulin (CRT) to immunomodulate the host immune system as a survival strategy. However, the structure of helminth-derived CRT and the structural basis of the immune evasion process remains unclarified. Previous study found that the tissue-dwelling helminth produces calreticulin (TsCRT), which binds C1q to inhibit activation of the complement classical pathway.

Background: The Asian yellow pond turtle (Mauremys mutica) is an important commercial freshwater aquaculture species in China. This species is a highly sexually dimorphic species, with males growing at a faster rate than females and exhibits temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD), in which the incubation temperature during embryonic development determines the sexual fate. However, the mechanisms of the sex determination or sex differentiation in the Asian yellow pond turtle are remain a mystery.

  • The study develops an optimized method for scheduling automated vehicles, specifically Unmanned follow-me cars, for better operation at large airports.
  • It involves three key phases: Dispatch, Guidance, and Recycle, with models for vehicle resource assignment, spacing measurement, and safety planning.
  • A case study at Ezhou Huahu Airport in China shows that the new methods effectively balance vehicle efficiency and safety, increasing the algorithm's convergence speed by 18.75% and achieving a low vehicle assignment inequity index.

The DKK family is a canonical small family of WNT antagonists. Though recent studies have suggested that the DKK gene family may be involved in sex differentiation in , there are still a lot of things about the DKK gene family that we do not know. In this study, we used bioinformatics methods to identify members of the DKK gene family in and analyzed their phylogeny, covariance, gene structure, structural domains, promoter conserved sites, signal peptides, gonadal transcription factors, transcriptional profiles, and tissue expression profiles.

Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) exerts an anti-tumor effect in multiple cancers, however, the molecular mechanism of DHA and whether DHA facilitates the anti-tumor efficacy of cisplatin in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are unclear. Here, we found that DHA potentiated the anti-tumor effects of cisplatin in NSCLC cells by stimulating reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, C-Jun-amino-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 MAPK signaling pathways both in vitro and in vivo. Of note, we demonstrated for the first time that DHA inhibits prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 (PTGS1) expression, resulting in enhanced ROS production.

The Asian yellow pond turtle () is widely traded in China, and its artificial breeding has now become a major industry. However, the insufficient offspring supply and reproductive decline of farmed turtles make the wild turtles more vulnerable. The present study was mainly designed to quantify the fecundity of and attempt to screen for good reproductive performance in females.

Through a 30-day experiment, this study investigated the effects of five photoperiods (0L:24D, 6L:18D, 12L:12D, 18L:6D, and 24L:0D) on the survival, enzyme activity, body color, and growth-related gene expression of redclaw crayfish () juveniles. The results showed that juveniles under 18L:6D and 24L:0D photoperiods exhibited the highest survival rate, which was significantly higher than the survival rates of juveniles under the other three photoperiods ( < 0.05).

Male and female Chinese soft-shelled turtles () have sex-dimorphic growth patterns, and males have higher commercial value because of their larger size and thicker calipash. Thus, developing sex-specific markers is beneficial to studies on all-male breeding in . Here, we developed an accurate and efficient workflow for the screening of sex-specific sequences with ZW or XY sex determination systems.
