Background: Emerging evidence showed that the most common functional polymorphism (-251A>T, rs4073) in the promoter region of the interleukin-8 (IL-8) gene is involved in the regulation of the activities of interleukin-8, thus increasing an individual's susceptibility to oral cancer; but individually published results are inconclusive. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the associations between IL-8 -251A>T polymorphism and oral cancer risk.
Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and CBM databases were searched for all articles published up to October 1st, 2012 that addressed IL-8 -251A>T polymorphism and oral cancer risk.

Purpose: To investigate the expression of Survivin mRNA and Caspase-3 mRNA in tongue squamous cell carcinoma(TSCC), and clarify their significance and correlation in TSCC.
Methods: In situ hybridization technique was employed to detect the expression of Survivin mRNA and Caspase-3 mRNA in 10 normal lingual mucous membranes (NLMM) and 45 TSCCs. Data was analyzed with SPSS13.

Purpose: To investigate the expression of Survivin, one of inhibitors of apoptosis proteins(IAPs) in tongue squamous cell carcinoma(TSCC), and discuss its clinical significance.
Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was employed to detect the expression of Survivin in 10 normal lingual mucosal membranes, 13 highly differentiated SCCs,20 medium-differentiated SCCs and 12 low-differentiated SCCs. Data was analyzed with SPSS13 software package for nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test.
