An artificial light-harvesting system constructed from a water-soluble host-guest complex can be regarded as a high-level conceptual model of its biological counterpart and can convert solar energy into chemical energy in an aqueous environment. Herein, a water-soluble metal-organic barrel Ga-tpe with twelve sulfonic acid units was obtained by subcomponent self-assembly between Ga ions and tetra-topic ligands with tetraphenylethylene (TPE) cores. By taking advantage of host-guest interactions, cationic dye rhodamine B (RB) was constrained in the pocket of Ga-tpe to promote the Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process for efficient photocatalytic aerobic oxidation of sulfides and cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction in aqueous media.

A new strategy involving three-component functionalization of olefins with sulfoxyimidoylsulfonium salt and a nucleophilic reagent for the synthesis of β-amino alcohols and β-amino ethers by photoredox catalysis was developed. The sulfoxyimidoylsulfonium salt is important and serves as the -centred radical precursor. β-Amino alcohols and β-amino ethers bearing various functional groups are synthesized in good yields under mild conditions.

Operation performance and membrane fouling of a novel static magnetic field membrane bioreactor (SMFMBR) for treatment of hypersaline azo dye wastewater was investigated. The results showed that SMFMBRs possessed higher efficiency of dye decolorization, COD removal and detoxification than the control MBR without SMF. The (3#) SMFMBR equipped with 305.

Anaerobic digestion (AD), which is a process for generating biogas, can be applied to the treatment of organic wastes. Owing to its smaller footprint, lower energy consumption, and less digestate, high solid anaerobic digestion (HSAD) has attracted increasing attention. However, its biogas production is poor.

Aqueous fingerprint has an advantage to represent the organic components of water samples as compared to traditional parameters such as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC). Printing and dyeing wastewater is one of the major types of industrial wastewater in China. It is of huge volume and heavy pollution, containing large numbers of luminescent components and being difficult to be degraded.

Isolation, identification and characterization of a salt-tolerant yeast capable of degrading and detoxifying azo dyes were investigated in this study. Possible degradation pathway of Acid Scarlet 3R was proposed through analyzing metabolic intermediates using UV-Vis and HPLC-MS methods. Furthermore, the Microtox test was performed to evaluate the acute toxicity of the dye before and after biodegradation.

Based on years of experience on analyzing reactive dyes by high performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection/mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD/MS), the essential applications for current structure identification of the commercial reactive dyes are summa- rized in three aspects. Commercial dyes always include several kinds of components. They are assistants for increasing solubility of synthetic dyes, multi-color synthetic dyes and their by-products derived from synthesis and storage.

Melanin concentrating hormone receptor 1 (MCHR1), a crucial regulator of energy homeostasis involved in the control of feeding and energy metabolism, is a promising target for treatment of obesity. In the present work, the up-to-date largest set of 181 quinoline/quinazoline derivatives as MCHR1 antagonists was subjected to both ligand- and receptor-based three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity (3D-QSAR) analysis applying comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA). The optimal predictable CoMSIA model exhibited significant validity with the cross-validated correlation coefficient (Q²) = 0.

An efficient Pd-catalyzed desulfitative coupling reaction of sodium arylsulfinates as arylation reagents by C-O bond cleavage of aryl triflates was developed. With only 2 mol % of Pd(OAc)(2) as catalyst and XPhos as ligand, the reaction proceeded well for a range of substrates.

An efficient protocol for the direct synthesis of 4-arylcoumarins via palladium-catalyzed oxidative Heck coupling reaction of coumarins and arylboronic acids was developed. 4-Arylcoumarins were obtained in moderate to excellent yields, and the reaction also showed tolerance toward functional groups such as hydro, methoxy, diethylamino, nitro, and chloro groups.

Currently, there is increasing competition for waste as feedstock for the growing number of biogas plants. This has led to fluctuation in feedstock supply and biogas plants being operated below maximum capacity. The feasibility of supplementing a protein/lipid-rich industrial waste (pig manure, slaughterhouse waste, food processing and poultry waste) mesophilic anaerobic digester with carbohydrate-rich energy crops (hemp, maize and triticale) was therefore studied in laboratory scale batch and continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) with a view to scale-up to a commercial biogas process.

The interaction mechanism of the typical ionic liquid (IL) 1-methyl-3-butyl imidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM][PF6]), imidazolium ionic liquid with hydroxyl group and nonylphenol (NP) was studied through infrared (IR) spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations for density functional theory. The results indicated the hydrogen bonds could not be found in the IR spectra before and after IL [BMIM][PF6] extracting NP while the absorption peaks of the hydroxyl group of the ILs containing hydroxyl group have red shifts after the ILs extracting NP. It could be seen in the theoretical calculation that the cation [BMIM]+ of [BMIM][PF6] has the C--H.
