This article introduces a reductive coupling driven by visible-light, facilitating the synthesis of pyridine-substituted alcohols and amines through the reaction of aldehydes, ketones and imines with cyanopyridines. Hantzsch esters serve as reductants in this process, eliminating the need for transition-metals or photosensitizers. The method demonstrates extensive compatibility and finds utility in the late-stage functionalization of both natural and pharmaceutical products, offering a sustainable pathway for the diversification of chemical compounds.

Gegen Qinlian Pills (GQP) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine that is included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and played an important role in the clinical fight against COVID-19. Although GQP has shown the potential to treat thrombosis, there is no relevant research on its treatment of thrombosis so far.

It is reported that dihydroartemisinin could reduce the expression of phosphorylated adhesion kinase and matrix metalloproteinase-2, inhibit the growth, migration and invasion of ovarian cancer cells, promote the formation of Treg cells through TGF-beta/Smad signaling pathway, and play an immunosuppressive role; dihydroartemisinin could also inhibit the growth of lung cancer cells by inhibiting the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) receptor KDR. However, there are few studies on dihydroartemisinin in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. In order to preliminarily explore the effect of dihydroartemisinin on invasion and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells, CCK-8 method and crystal violet staining were used to detect the effect of dihydroartemisinin on the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma cell 7402 and highly metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma cell MHCC97 H.

Various functional groups including ester, methoxy, dimethoxy, nitro, halogen, and heterocyclic compounds were tolerated. This simple and green strategy provides a practical tool to construct C(sp)-CF bonds.

Probe 1 bearing a fluorescein skeleton was thus synthesized, which performed well in 100% HEPES buffer (pH = 7.0) solution, as a highly sensitive, selective fluorescence sensor for Cu.
