MgAlO-spinel has wide industrial and geological applications due to its special structural and physical-chemical features. It is presumably the most important endmember of complex natural spinel solid solutions, and therefore provides a structural model for a large group of minerals with the spinel structure. There exists a well known but still inadequately understood phenomenon in the structure of MgAlO-spinel, the Mg-Al cations readily exchanging their positions in response to variations of temperature, pressure, and composition.

Two new europium silicates, Na15Eu3Si12O36 (denoted as 1) and K2EuSi4O10F (denoted as 2), were successfully synthesized under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, and structurally characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The single-crystal XRD analysis of 1 reveals that its structure is based on [Si6O18]n(12n-) cyclosilicate anions that are built from six SiO4 tetrahedra sharing two of their four O corners with each other. Such [Si6O18]n(12n-) cyclosilicate anions are linked via EuO6 octahedra to form a three-dimensional (3D) framework containing 6-membered ring channels delimited by the SiO4 tetrahedra and EuO6 octahedra along the [010] direction.

Eighty-four castrated boars including Laiwu Black (LW) (weight 30-90 kg, n=6) and Lulai Black (LL) (weight 40-100 kg, n=6) were used to study the developmental changes of collagen type III alpha 1 (Col3a1) mRNA expression in the muscle and their association with intramuscular collagen (IMC). The muscle total RNA was extracted to determine the abundance of Col3a1 mRNA using relative quantitative RT-PCR with beta-actin mRNA as the internal standard. The results indicated that the developmental patterns of muscle Col3a1 mRNA in LW and LL pigs were similar.
