Article Synopsis
  • - Layered lithium-rich transition metal oxides are attractive for high-energy-density lithium batteries but face issues like capacity fade and voltage drop due to structural deterioration and chemical changes over time.
  • - The study examines how individual atoms to larger particles undergo changes during battery operation, uncovering complex internal reactions that contribute to oxygen loss and phase transformation.
  • - Key findings show that defects in oxygen and rapid changes during lithium movement lead to irreversible structural issues, which ultimately result in poor efficiency and damage during battery use.

Lithium- and manganese-rich layered oxide cathode materials have attracted extensive interest because of their high energy density. However, the rapid capacity fading and serve voltage decay over cycling make the waste management and recycling of key components indispensable. Herein, we report a facile concentrated solar radiation strategy for the direct recycling of Lithium- and manganese-rich cathodes, which enables the recovery of capacity and effectively improves its electrochemical stability.

Article Synopsis
  • Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is linked to sleep disorders, indicating that individuals with NAFLD experience shorter sleep duration and increased daytime sleepiness.
  • Recent research, including a meta-analysis of 18 studies from the past decade, highlights that patients with less than or equal to 6 hours of sleep per night or obstructive sleep apnea are at higher risk for developing NAFLD.
  • The findings suggest a significant association between NAFLD and sleep quality, emphasizing the need for improved sleep management to potentially slow down the progression of this liver disease.

This study aimed to explore aberrantly methylated-differentially expressed genes and related pathways in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA).The mRNA expression data (GSE26566) and methylation profiling data (GSE44965) were collected from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) Datasets. Differentially expressed genes and differentially methylated genes were identified using GEO2R.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is diagnosed increasingly in children and adolescents. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and related influencing factors of NAFLD in school-aged children and adolescents in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. Furthermore, we analyzed the relationship between lifestyle and fatty liver.

At present, the incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in adults is increasing year by year and at a younger age. Evidence-based healthcare has confirmed that NAFLD is closely related to obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and other chronic metabolic diseases. Despite the growing prevalence of NAFLD, little is known about symptoms for patients at risk of NAFLD progression, thus preventing healthcare providers from intervening at an early stage.

The reaction between organic matter and disinfectants leads to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water. With the improvement of detection technology and in-depth research, more than 1000 kinds of DBPs have been detected in drinking water. Nitrogenous DBPs (N-DBPs) are more genotoxic and cytotoxic than the regulated DBPs.

Raw water transportation pipelines are vital in an urban water supply system for transporting raw water to drinking water treatment plants. This study investigated the effects of pipe material on nitrogen transformation, microbial communities and characteristics of related function genes in paint-lined steel pipe (PLSP) and cement-lined steel pipe (CLSP) raw water model systems. We established quantitative relationships between specific functional genes and change rates of nitrogen pollutants, which were verified by field investigation on nitrogen pollutant transformations in real raw water transportation systems.

This study investigated the aminoglycoside resistance phenotypes and genotypes, as well as the prevalence of virulence genes, in Enterococcus species isolated from clinical patients in China. A total of 160 enterococcal isolates from various clinical samples collected from September 2013 to July 2014 were identified to the species level using the VITEK-2 COMPACT system. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of the identified Enterococcus strains were determined by the Kirby-Bauer (K-B) disc diffusion method.

Objective: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit on the integrated schistosomiasis control strategies with emphasis on infection source, and provide scientific basis for the improvement of schistosomiasis control strategy.

Methods: Aiguo and Xinhe villages in Jinxian County were selected as intervention group where the new comprehensive strategy was implemented, while Ximiao and Zuxi villages in Xinzi County served as control where routine control program was implemented. New strategy of interventions included removing cattle from snail-infested grasslands and providing farmers with farm machinery, improving sanitation by supplying tap water and building lavatories and methane gas tanks, and implementing an intensive health education program.
