Craniofacial bone defect healing in periodontitis patients with diabetes background has long been difficult due to increased blood glucose levels which cause overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a low pH environment. These conditions negatively affect the function of macrophages, worsen inflammation and oxidative stress, and ultimately, hinder osteoblasts' bone repair potential. In this study, we for the first time found that ANXA1 expression in macrophages was reduced in a diabetic periodontitis environment, with the activation of the NLRP3/Caspase-1/GSDMD signaling pathway, and, eventually, increased macrophage pyroptosis.

Intelligent hydrogels are promising in constructing scaffolds for the controlled delivery of drugs. Here, a dual thermo- and pH-responsive hydrogel called PCG [poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide-co-itaconic acid)/chitosan/glycerophosphate (PNI/CS/GP)] was established as the carrier of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treatment. A condition-controlled Rh(III)-catalyzed selective synthesis of CF-substituted indoles and pyrido[2,1-]isoindoles from 2-arylpyridines and CF-imidoyl sulfoxonium ylides has been developed. The Cp*Rh(MeCN)(SbF)/HFIP system afforded CF-substituted indoles via triple C-H activation, while the [Cp*RhCl]/MeCN condition selectively furnished CF-substituted pyrido[2,1-]isoindoles through C-H [4 + 1] annulation. The notable advantages of this developed method included readily available starting materials, broad substrate scope, and excellent chemoselectivity.

Research indicates that indica rice grains may accumulate more Cd than japonica cultivars; however, differences in Cd bioavailability (the fraction of ingested rice Cd absorbed into the systemic circulation) and toxicity remain unexplored, thus hindering a comprehensive understanding of exposure and health risks.
