Background: The traditional criterion for the diagnosis of implant loosening in total hip arthroplasty (THA) was once defined as a radiolucent line of >2 mm in width, based on plain radiography. Recent progress in imaging technology has allowed for the identification of complete radiolucent lines of ≤2 mm around the whole prosthesis as the basis for diagnosing component loosening in the absence of component migration. In this study, a novel method called selective proteolysis was applied to the glycinin component of soy protein isolate (SPI), and a degraded glycinin hydrolysate (DGH) was obtained. The effects of high-intensity ultrasound (HIU) treatment (20 kHz at 400 W, 0, 5, 20, and 40 min) on the physical, structural, and aggregation properties of DGH were investigated with the aim to reveal the influence of the selectively hydrolyzing glycinin component on the HIU treatment of soy protein. The amino acid composition, nutritional value and proteins subunit of chestnuts ( Blume) from three regions of China (Henan, Hunan, and Guangdong) were investigated. Experimental results showed that the albumin fraction dominated the chestnut protein composition, but globulin and prolamin were nondetectable. All the Chinese chestnut proteins had a nutritionally balanced amino acid composition.

Understanding the composition and content of carotenoids in red-flesh navel orange "Cara Cara" cultivated in different regions is valuable for its nutrition assessment and fruit processing control. Herein, the carotenoids of "Cara Cara" fruits, harvested from five typical citrus growing regions of China, were identified and quantified by HPLC-DAD coupled with HPLC-DAD-APCI-MS/MS. Background: Rigid and safe transacetabular screw fixation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is achieved by pursuing deeper bone stock and avoiding injuries to the neurovascular structures, but these efforts can be restricted by the distribution of screw-holes on cups by the manufacturer. We therefore tried to determine: (i) optimal screw-hole positions on cups to allow anatomical placement of screws; (ii) rationality of the basic 3-screw-hole cluster on commercial cups; and (iii) the optimum method for placing commercial cups in accordance with acetabular anatomy.

Positively charged N-[(2-hydroxy-3-trimethylammonium) propyl] chitosan chloride (HTCC) and negatively charged soy protein isolate (SPI) were alternately assembled on cellulose acetate (CA) electrospun nanofibrous mats via electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly technique. CA nanofibrous mats coated with bilayers of HTCC and SPI possessed more orderly-arranged structure than uncoated CA mats according to the observation from scanning electron microscopy images. Polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) catalyzing the oxygen dependent oxidation of phenols to quinones are ubiquitously distributed in plants and are assumed to be involved in plant defense against pests and pathogens. A protein with high PPO activity was identified in Satsuma mandarine, extracted with Tris-HCl buffer, purified by salt precipitation and column chromatography, and characterized by mass spectrometry as germin-like protein (GLP), which belongs to pathogenesis related protein (PR) family. Peanut protein isolate (PPI) was glycated with glucomannan through classical heating or ultrasound treatment in this work. The physicochemical properties of PPI-glucomannan conjugates prepared by ultrasound treatment were compared to those prepared by classical heating. Compared with classical heating, ultrasound treatment could accelerate the graft reaction between PPI and glucomannan and improve the concentration of available free amino groups of PPI.
