Endometritis and the failure of decidualization of the endometrium are important factors contributing to the increased incidence of abortion. USP22 is associated with various inflammatory diseases and has been shown to be involved in endometrial decidualization in mice. This study aims to investigate whether USP22 is involved in the regulation of inflammatory response and decidualization in human endometrial stromal cells (hESCs).

  • Remaining useful life (RUL) assesses the health of crucial equipment, but predicting it is often challenging due to its random nature.
  • Two main methods for estimating RUL are physics-based models and data-driven approaches, with the latter typically relying on significant human effort and facing accuracy limitations.
  • Recent advances in deep learning have improved RUL prediction, leading to a comprehensive survey that reviews literature based on a unified framework, compares estimation processes across different models, and addresses challenges related to limited labeled data, along with future research directions.

  • Mixed reality navigation (MRN) technology is becoming an important tool in neurosurgery, allowing surgeons to visualize the brain using a mix of virtual and physical elements for better guidance during procedures.
  • MRN is seen as a cost-effective and user-friendly alternative to traditional neuronavigation methods, but faces challenges like patient recruitment and the availability of affordable, medically relevant head models for research.
  • To help advance the development of MRN systems, a new dataset has been created that includes imaging data and 3D models from 19 patients with brain lesions, which can be used for testing and improving MRN applications in surgery.

Compared to well-developed catalytic 1,2-diazidation of alkenes to produce vicinal diazides, the corresponding catalytic 1,1-diazidation of alkenes to yield geminal diazides has not been realized. Here we report an efficient approach for catalytic 1,1-diazidation of alkenes by redox-active selenium catalysis. Under mild conditions, electron-rich aryl alkenes with Z or E or Z/E mixed configuration can undergo migratory 1,1-diazidation to give a series of functionalized monoalkyl or dialkyl geminal diazides that are difficult to access by other methods.

The effects of individual biochar constituents and natural environmental media on the immobilization behaviors and chemical activities of toxic heavy metals are still poorly understood. In this work, the physicochemical properties of raw corn straw (CS) and CS-derived biochar materials as well as their sorption abilities and retention mechanisms for lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) were evaluated by combining batch experiments and spectral approaches. According to the spectral analysis results and single variable principle, the setting of biochars after soaking in solution as the control group was suggested when evaluating their retention mechanisms for Pb and Cd.

Objective: Mixed-reality simulation is an emerging tool for creating anatomical models for preoperative planning. Its use in neurosurgical training (NT) has been limited because of the difficulty in real-time interactive teaching. This study describes the development of a patient-specific, interactive mixed-reality NT system.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving Mixed Reality Navigation (MRN) for neurosurgery by introducing a new registration method using a laser crosshair simulator, which helps replicate scanner positions on patients.
  • - It employs a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) application on HoloLens-2 to autonomously calculate coordinate transformations without requiring user input during the registration process.
  • - The approach achieved an average target registration error of 3.7 ± 1.7 mm, suggesting enhanced accuracy and efficiency, making it a promising tool for improving surgical outcomes in a cost-effective manner.

Objectives: Infantile spasm (IS) is an epileptic encephalopathy with ongoing neurological damage due to seizures and epileptiform abnormalities. Epilepsy surgery is considered for children refractory to drug therapy, especially when there is a focal brain lesion. In this study, we investigated the feasibility and efficacy of intraventricular stereotactic electroencephalography (SEEG) and laser ablation for the treatment of IS children with focal brain lesions.

Object: Vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms (VBDAs) are known to have a poor natural history with high rates of re-bleeding and mortality. There is a strong relation between hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) and cerebrovascular disease; we perform a retrospective study within the male of Chinese Han population to explore the association between HHcy and VBDAs.

Methods: Eighty-eight male patients with VBDA and Eighty-one male control subjects were evaluated for their serum total homocysteine levels.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening autosomal-recessive disease caused by mutations in a single gene encoding cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). CF effects multiple organs, and lung disease is the primary cause of mortality. The median age at death from CF is in the early forties.

With the exponential growth of cyber-physical systems (CPSs), security challenges have emerged; attacks on critical infrastructure could result in catastrophic consequences. Intrusion detection is the foundation for CPS security protection, and deep-packet inspection is the primary method for signature-matched mechanisms. This method usually employs regular expression matching (REM) to detect possible threats in the packet payload.
