Palladium single-atom catalysts (SACs) have caught great attention owing to their maximal atom utilization and outstanding activity for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. However, a facile manufacturing method for kilogram-scale synthesis of noble metal SACs with high productivity is still in demand. This study reports on the synthesis of SACs by direct ball milling of commercial metal oxides and nitrate precursors with a productivity of ∼100%.

In the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde (CAL), Pt/FeO achieves an excellent cinnamyl alcohol (COL) selectivity of 81.7% at a CAL conversion of 91.

However, the application of SACs is hindered by the lack of versatile and scalable preparation approaches. Here, we show a precursor-atomization strategy to produce SACs, involving the spray of droplets of solutions containing metal precursors onto support surface through ultrasonic atomization and the subsequent calcination.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtomically dispersed Fe species embedded in the nitrogen-containing carbon supports (Fe/NC) are successfully synthesized using a ball milling approach, with commercial protein powder as the nitrogen source. The catalyst exhibits outstanding performance in the oxidation of aromatic compounds containing saturated C-H bonds into corresponding ketones under ambient conditions, which is superior to those of a nanoparticle catalyst (Fe/NC) and a metal-free catalyst (NC).
