Article Synopsis
  • Silkworm mutants, specifically "thin cocoon" mutants, were created using PiggyBac-based random insertional mutagenesis to study genes involved in silk production.
  • The mutants showed significant changes, including thinner cocoons and decreased mRNA levels of fibroin genes compared to wild types.
  • Four specific genes were disrupted, including Aquaporin, which plays a role in osmotic regulation, offering insights for future genetic studies and silkworm breeding advancements.
