Development of efficient electrocatalysts combining the features of low cost and high performance for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) still remains a critical challenge. Here, we proposed a facile strategy to construct a novel hierarchical heterostructure composed of 0D-2D CoSe/MoSe by the selenization of CoMoO nanosheets grafted on a carbon cloth (CC). In such integrated structure, CoSe nanoparticles dispersed well and tightly bonded with MoSe nanosheets, which can not only enhance kinetics due to the synergetic effects, thus promoting the electrocatalytic activity, but also effectively improve the structural stability.

The development of membranes with low fuel crossover and high fuel efficiency is a key issue in direct borohydride fuel cells (DBFCs). In previous work, we produced a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-anion-exchange resin (AER) membrane with a low fuel crossover and a low fuel efficiency by introducing Co ions. In this work, a bilayer membrane was designed to improve the fuel efficiency and cell performance.

Exploring 2D multifunctional materials with intrinsic ferro-/ferrimagnetism and vertical ferroelectricity is a highly desirable but challenging task. Here, motivated by the recently synthesized organometallic frameworks KFe[PcFeO], we propose to realize such materials in a series of 2D KM[PcMO] (M = Cr-Co) nanosheets. First-principles calculations suggest 2D KCr[PcCrO] as a ferromagnetic half metal with a Curie temperature of 140 K, whereas others (M = Mn, Fe, and Co) are all ferrimagnetic semiconductors with the Curie temperatures between 66 and 150 K.

Many layered superlattice materials intrinsically possess large Seebeck coefficient and low lattice thermal conductivity, but poor electrical conductivity because of the interlayer transport barrier for charges, which has become a stumbling block for achieving high thermoelectric performance. Herein, taking BiCuSeO superlattice as an example, it is demonstrated that efficient interlayer charge release can increase carrier concentration, thereby activating multiple Fermi pockets through Bi/Cu dual vacancies and Pb codoping. Experimental results reveal that the extrinsic charges, which are introduced by Pb and initially trapped in the charge-reservoir [BiO] sublayers, are effectively released into [CuSe] sublayers via the channels bridged by Bi/Cu dual vacancies.

Thymoglobulin (THG) and antithymocyte globulin-Fresenius (ATG-F) have not been compared directly as induction therapies in kidney transplantation. We performed a Bayesian network meta-analysis to compare THG with ATG-F by pooling direct and indirect evidence. Surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) values were used to compare the superiority of one method over the other.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported substantial single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with major depressive disorder (MDD), but the underlying functional variations in the GWAS risk loci are unclear. Here we show that the European MDD genome-wide risk-associated allele of rs12129573 at 1p31.1 is associated with MDD in Han Chinese, and this SNP is in strong linkage disequilibrium (LD) with a human-unique Alu insertion polymorphism (rs70959274) in the 5' flanking region of a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LINC01360 (Long Intergenic Non-Protein Coding RNA 1360), which is preferably expressed in human testis in the currently available expression datasets.

The circadian clock is a cell-autonomous time-keeping mechanism established gradually during embryonic development. Here, we generated a transgenic zebrafish line carrying a destabilized fluorescent protein driven by the promoter of a core clock gene, nr1d1, to report in vivo circadian rhythm at the single-cell level. By time-lapse imaging of this fish line and 3D reconstruction, we observed the sequential initiation of the reporter expression starting at photoreceptors in the pineal gland, then spreading to the cells in other brain regions at the single-cell level.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is recognized as a primary cause of disability worldwide, and effective management of this illness has been a great challenge. While genetic component is supposed to play pivotal roles in MDD pathogenesis, the genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity of the illness has hampered the discovery of its genetic determinants. In this study, in an independent Han Chinese sample (1824 MDD cases and 3031 controls), we conducted replication analyses of two genetic loci highlighted in a previous Chinese MDD genome-wide association study (GWAS), and confirmed the significant association of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs12415800 near SIRT1.

Alloying 3d transition metals with Pt has been discovered as an effective strategy to boost the catalytic activity in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which, however, often raises the insufficient catalyst durability issue due to rapid leaching of the 3d metal elements. To overcome this issue and realize enhancements in both the activity and the durability properties, here we report a new catalytic structure based on PtGa ultrathin alloy nanowires (NWs), which feature an unconventional strong p-d hybridization interaction. Relative to commercial Pt catalyst, the optimum PtGa NWs catalyst exhibited 10.
