Article Synopsis
- Researchers collected 11 mollusca and 32 fish samples from areas with high schistosomiasis prevalence to measure levels of 12 CB congeners using GC/MS technique.
- The most common CB congeners found were 1,3-DIC, 1,4-DIC, 1,2-DIC, and HCB, with mollusca showing a geometric average of 11,947 ng/g lipid weight and fish between 1,851 to 8,159 ng/g lipid weight.
- Catfish had the highest CB concentrations while crucian carp had the lowest; cancer risk estimates for local residents consuming these organisms were within acceptable limits.
