Nuclear receptor corepressor (NCoR1) interacts with various nuclear receptors and regulates the anabolism and catabolism of lipids. An imbalance in lipid/energy homeostasis is also an important factor in obesity and metabolic syndrome development. In this study, we found that the deletion of NCoR1 in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) mainly activated the nuclear receptor PPAR and attenuated metabolic syndrome by stimulating thermogenesis.

The BiSe family can exhibit many intriguing topological insulator properties, including a narrow bandgap and strong surface states, which show excellent nonlinear optical properties. Thinning bulk BiSe family materials to create a low-cost photoelectric modulation device and explaining the mechanisms of nonlinear optical differences in different types of materials remain challenges. Based on liquid-phase exfoliation technology and tapered fiber, this work prepared optoelectronic modulation devices for various samples within the BiSe family, quantitatively compared their nonlinear optical properties, and analyzed the sources of differentiation using the occupied and unoccupied multiband structure theory.

Article Synopsis
  • - The WD40 repeat (WDR) domain is crucial for protein‒protein interactions and is vital in spermatogenesis, particularly in processes like sperm division and flagellar assembly.
  • - Researchers identified a new gene, WDR64, that exhibits characteristics typical of WD40 proteins and is mainly expressed in testes, with expression levels increasing significantly from postnatal Day 7 to Day 28.
  • - The study shows that WDR64 interacts with ODF1, forming a complex important for sperm development, particularly in managing the structure of the nucleus and the assembly of the sperm tail during spermiogenesis.

The prevalence of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has increased over 10-fold in the past 40 years in China, which now has the largest T2DM population in the world. Insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction are the typical features of T2DM. Although both factors play a role, decreased β-cell function and β-cell mass are the predominant factors for progression to T2DM.

Recent progress in the co-spinning of nanofibers and semiconductor particles offers a promising strategy for the development of photocatalytic devices, solving aggregation and catalyst recovery challenges. However, composite photocatalysts based on nanofiber membranes often suffer from poor conductivity, low hydrophilicity, and easy recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in the semiconductor components. Here, to tackle the aforementioned issues of ZnInS/polyacrylonitrile (ZIS/PAN) nanofiber-based catalysts, we prepared a composite carbon dots/ZnInS/polyacrylonitrile (CZP) nanofiber membrane by blending carbon dots (CDs) with ZIS/PAN using the electrospinning process.

Article Synopsis
  • Sun5, a testis-specific gene, is linked to acephalic spermatozoa syndrome (ASS) and plays a critical role in mRNA export in male germ cells.* -
  • Knockout mice studies show that loss of Sun5 leads to accumulation of poly(A) RNA in nuclei, resulting in lower sperm counts and motility issues.* -
  • Sun5 interacts with proteins like Nxf1 and Nup93, and disruption in this interaction impairs mRNA export, potentially explaining abnormal sperm development in affected mice.*

Objective: Invasive lung adenocarcinoma(ILA) with micropapillary (MPP)/solid (SOL) components has a poor prognosis. Preoperative identification is essential for decision-making for subsequent treatment. This study aims to construct and evaluate a super-resolution(SR) enhanced radiomics model designed to predict the presence of MPP/SOL components preoperatively to provide more accurate and individualized treatment planning.

Acephalic spermatozoa syndrome (ASS) is a severe teratospermia with decaudated, decapitated, and malformed sperm, resulting in male infertility. Nuclear envelope protein SUN5 localizes to the junction between the sperm head and tail. Mutations in the SUN5 gene have been identified most frequently (33-47%) in ASS cases, and its molecular mechanism of action is yet to be explored.

This study aimed to develop an optimal radiomics model for preoperatively predicting microsatellite instability (MSI) in patients with rectal cancer (RC) based on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging. The retrospective study included 308 RC patients who did not receive preoperative antitumor therapy, among whom 51 had MSI. Radiomics features were extracted and dimensionally reduced from T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and T1-weighted contrast enhanced (T1CE) images for each patient, and the features of each sequence were combined.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to construct and validate a nomogram that combines diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters and clinically relevant features for predicting the progression of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the MRI and clinical data of 121 MCI patients, of whom 32 progressed to AD during a 4-year follow-up period. The MCI patients were divided into training and validation sets at a ratio of 7:3.

A fluorescent capillary sensor for detecting the bioanalytically and biologically relevant analytes pH, O, and CO has been designed. The sensor is based on single capillary tube with 2 mm inner diameter, which is simultaneous doped with emissive O-sensitive indicator Ru(dpp)(PF6) (RuDP), pH-sensitive and CO-sensitive indicator 8-hydroxypyrene-1, 3,6-trisulfonic acid trisodium salt (HPTS). The multifunctional sensor can be excited at the same wavelength and realize multi-parameter optical monitoring at the different sensing position.

The WD40-repeat containing (WDR) proteins are enriched in the testis and play important roles in spermatogenesis. In the present study, we investigate the expression profile of WDR38, a novel member of the WDR protein family, in humans and mice. RT-qPCR (reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction) results demonstrate that WDR38 mRNA is abundantly expressed in both the human and mouse testis.

Spermatogenesis is a complex process that includes spermatogonia self-renewal, spermatocyte meiosis and spermatozoa assembly. Recent studies have revealed that WD40-repeat domain-containing (WDR) proteins play important roles in spermatocyte division, spermatozoa flagella assembly and head shaping. In this study, we investigated the expression pattern of WDR87 and found that it was highly expressed in the testis of both humans and mice.

Nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI or Fe) can rapidly reduce Cr(VI) contaminants in the water environment, but the agglomeration and passivation of the Fe system have adverse effects on its application. In this study, a novel mesoporous Santa Barbara Amorphous-15 supported Fe/Ni bimetallic composite (SBA-15@Fe/Ni) is proposed to remove Cr(VI). The proposed material can enhance the stability and removal capacity of the nZVI system.

Background And Aims: NAFLD is the most prevalent chronic liver disease worldwide and has emerged as a serious public health issue with no approved treatment. The development of NAFLD is strongly associated with hepatic lipid content, and patients with NAFLD have significantly higher rates of hepatic de novo lipogenesis (DNL) than lean individuals. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4), a metabolite of arachidonic acid, is dramatically increased in obesity and plays important role in proinflammatory cytokine production and insulin resistance.
