Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) can only be cured through the excision of all metastatic lesions, but 29-60% patients failed to localize the disease in the current clinical practice. Previously, we developed a fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI)-based covalent targeted radioligand (CTR) for improved detection sensitivity and accuracy. In this first-in-class clinical trial, we head-to-head compared [68Ga]Ga-CTR-FAPI PET-CT and [18F]FDG PET-CT in 50 MTC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - Procalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker that helps in diagnosing conditions like septicemia, pyemia, and stroke-related pneumonia.
  • - A new sandwich-like voltammetric immunosensor was created using β-cyclodextrin and graphene to detect PCT, incorporating antibodies and a signal probe for enhanced sensitivity.
  • - The developed sensor shows a very low detection limit and a wide range of PCT concentrations, making it a promising tool for detecting PCT and potentially other biomarkers.

Purpose: An accurate diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) can assist physicians in developing reasonable therapeutic regimens, thereby significantly improving the patient's prognosis. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-targeted PET imaging shows great potential for this purpose. Despite showing remarkable abilities to detect primary and metastatic CRC, previously reported CEA-specific antibody radiotracers or pretargeted imaging are not suitable for clinical use due to poor pharmacokinetics and complicated imaging procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between a new metric called Vasoactive-Inotropic Score Reduction Rate (VRR) and mortality outcomes in patients with septic shock.
  • The researchers used advanced machine learning models on data from the MIMIC-IV database to analyze the effects of VRR on ICU and in-hospital mortality.
  • Results showed that patients with higher VRR had significantly lower mortality rates, indicating that effective management of vasoactive and inotropic agents is crucial for better clinical outcomes.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of [Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT and [F]F-FDG PET/CT in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) lesions.

Methods: This single-center preliminary clinical study (NCT04750772) was conducted at the Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute and included 61 participants with CRC who underwent sequential evaluation through PET/CT with [F]F-FDG and [Ga]Ga-FAPI-04. Their PET/CT images were analysed to quantify the uptake of the two tracers in the form of maximum standardised uptake (SUV) values and target-to-background ratio (TBR), which were then compared using Wilcoxon's signed-rank test.

Article Synopsis
  • Mechanical ventilation (MV) is crucial in ICUs but prolonged use can lead to complications like ventilator-associated pneumonia, making timely weaning important to avoid risks of reintubation and mortality.
  • A multicenter retrospective cohort study will analyze weaning practices across 17 ICUs in China, focusing on patient outcomes related to the initial reason for MV and factors influencing weaning strategies.
  • The study aims to address the gap in knowledge regarding compliance with weaning guidelines and variations in practices among different centers in China.

Against the background of people's increasing awareness of personal safety and property safety, the flame retardancy (FR) of materials has increasingly become the focus of attention in the field of construction engineering. A variety of materials have been developed in research and production in this field. Polymers have many advantages, such as their light weight, low water absorption, high flexibility, good chemical corrosion resistance, high specific strength, high specific modulus and low thermal conductivity, and are often applied to the field of construction engineering.

Levosimendan and dobutamine are extensively used to treat sepsis-associated cardiovascular failure in ICU. Nevertheless, the role and mechanism of levosimendan in patients with sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy remains unclear. Moreover, previous studies on whether levosimendan is superior to dobutamine are still controversial.

Objective: Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality after surgery. We aimed to explore the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) sponging microRNA-26a-5p in sepsis-induced myocardial injury by regulating regulator of calcineurin 2 (Rcan2).

Methods: HL-1 cells were incubated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce in vitro cardiomyocyte injury models, which were then treated with silenced MALAT1 vector, miR-26a-5p mimic or Rcan2 overexpression vector.

Background: LncRNA PVT1 was reported to be elevated in septic myocardial tissue. The underlying mechanism by which PVT1 aggravated sepsis induced myocardial injury needs further investigation.

Methods: Mice was subjected to LPS injection to mimic in vivo sepsis model.

In this study, rural atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO) and ozone (O) were measured from January 2015 to December 2018 to investigate characteristics of greenhouse gases in eastern China. Results showed that the annual average CO (O) concentration in 2018 decreased by 2% (increased by 19%) when compared with that in 2015. CO concentrations exhibited monthly variability, peaking in February (443.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) contributes significantly to cardiovascular dysfunction during septic shock. We aimed to evaluate the potential role of Xinmailong injection (XMLI), a polypeptide medicine extracted from Periplaneta americana, in reversing the progression of myocardial damage to SIMD in sepsis patients. This was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group trial.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of electroacupuncture at Baihui (GV20) and Shuigou (GV26) points in the treatment of brain injury in patients with sepsis-associated encephalopathy(SAE).

Methods: A total of 70 patients with SAE were randomly divided into control group and treatment group, with 35 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were given routine western medicine treatment, including anti-infective therapy, nerve nutrition, and mechanical ventilation, and those in the treatment group were given electroacupuncture at GV20 and GV26 in addition to the treatment in the control group.
